The UFC has revealed that Thiago Tavares tested positive for the anabolic steroid drostanolone and has been suspended for nine months. The positive test adds further insult to injury after Tavares was crushed by Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Drostanolone is used in body building to assist in keeping up lean muscle during weight cutting. The positive drug test further adds to the frustration Tavares dealt with in 2012 after having two straight bouts canceled.
The test quells the rumors that were swirling about Vitor Belfort being the one to test positive. The UFC did reveal that Belfort received a therapeutic use exemption for testosterone replacement therapy, however he tested within the limits of the test.
The rest of the card had no issue passing their drug tests.
