UFC 156 – What Now For the Losers?

What now? UFC 156

Picture 1 of 6

As UFC 156 demonstrated, "The best laid schemes of mice and men often go awry." While the very nature of fighting is that one man must lose, it sometimes shines a light on the issue with hinging your plans on one person.

MMA Frenzy will now look at what comes next for the men who came up on the short end at UFC 156.

    Aldo vs Edgar 2

  • Paino says:

Edgar won rounds 3,4,5. He got ripped off again, something needs to be done with these scorekeepers. Retired figters would be a good option.

    • Philly V says:

Edgar’s problem is his lack of power. While he tends to out-strike, out-wrestle, and out-work his opponents, he ends up bloodied and battered. Although his cardio is second to none and he finishes strong where his opponents fade in the 4th and 5th, he still just doesn’t have that KO power that he uncharacteristically caught Maynard with. I think he should stay at 145 and increase his strength training. Then after he has taken the belt at 145, move back up to 155 to claim that one too.

    • Jesse Denis says:

I gave him 3 & 4, gave Aldo the fifth.

  • Dan says:

Overeem vs Dos Santos will be very good for either of them to get back into title contention. The HW division just got so screwed up now. Everyone’s coming of 1-2 wins or a loss. Cormier won’t fight Cain so really we should have Overeem vs JDS for the next title shot. Bigfoot deserves a rematch with Cain.

  • Big Hurt says:

It’s got to be werdum and Cain now if he wins

  • Mikemac says:

If overeem fights like that against jds, he will not get out of the 1st. I thought the 3rd round of Edgar Aldo was very close and could have been a 10-10. I didn’t agree with the 2 judges that had it 4 to 1. Hard to know how they scored the take downs where Aldo was almost instantly back up.

  • russiandoeboi says:

if ALDO / EDGAR had more rounds it’s hard to imagine Edgar not winning. It’d be interesting to have 10 minute rounds again. in a perfect world there’d be no time limit.

You might say it’s better the way it is or that it doesn;t matter because rules are rules. but it’d be interesting to see who’d win if it was in the jungle, for real

  • Pandapeep says:

Finally Edgar lost. I like the kid, but I’m sorry, but I have only seen him win one fight as a #1 contender or champion. Otherwise he just touches them and doesn’t quit. If you want to be a legitimate champion, you need to win a fight, decisively, and for whatever reason, he can’t do that recently.

So, I’m glad that he is getting tossed down the ladder, finally. Earn a title shot after a loss instead of just having them handed to you.

  • undercover says:

Edgar came back in the fight, because Aldo let him.

Edgar just wasn’t good enough, let him fight Faber or Koch.

  • frantzfanon says:

I really wanted Also to stop Edgar, just so we wouldn’t have to hear all the whining for yet one more damn rematch. If Edgar wanted the belt he needed to do more than what he did in the fight. End of story…

    • Rex says:

Yea, only having more energy than your opponent doesn’t win the rounds. I think the fight was so lopsided in Aldo’s favor that anything good that Edgar did was highlighted. I had frankie only winning the 4th, Maybe the 5th. He didn’t do enough to steal round 3.

Can’t wait for the Pettis fight.

  • Rex says:

I’m so glad Overeem’s arrogant self got knocked out. Hopefully he will be a little more humble.

Does anybody even think Rashad deserves the loser of Hendo and Machida? That’s very generous of the UFC if he does.
