UFC president Dana White apparently received an interesting text message following UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo’s victory over Frankie Edgar tonight at UFC 156. UFC lightweight Anthony Pettis has requested a showdown with the Brazilian fighter at featherweight. White revealed the interesting bit of information at the UFC 156 post-fight press conference.
Pettis is currently awaiting his turn at the UFC lightweight title after destroying Donald Cerrone last week at UFC on Fox 6. With UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson set to face former Strkeforce champion Gilbert Melendez this April, the Roufusport fighter was likely facing a long waiting period for his chance at the lightweight crown.
Aldo was asked about the potential fight at the presser, and while he deferred to White’s choice, the Brazilian fighter did state that he would be interested in that fight.

Great fight, but there’s nothing Pettis can do. It’s all about Jose.
How amazing would this fight be? If Pettis beat Aldo, he could go back to lightweight and fight for another belt and with a little Showtime luck he could have two belts in one year. If he loses against Aldo he would most likely lose his lightweight title shot, but he would only need one more big win to get it back. And if he won against Aldo but lost at lightweight, he would still be champ at 145, so really he has alot to gain but not a whole to lose that he can’t get back.
I am so conflicted about this…while I would love to see Pettis drop down and challenge Aldo there’s other guys at FW who should be next in line (I know, not that that seems to matters), Lamas and TKZ are both right there. I could see Pettis granted a shot, but IMO if he wants to drop to FW he should fight TKZ first and Lamas should fight Aldo next.
I feel like you’re a fan of snuff films…
God knows I am…
@jessedenis pipe down, clone wars…
WOAH that would be unreal, i thought pettis looked unbeleivebly good in his fight with cowboy, if the weight cut doesnt affect him negatively i actually think he’d take aldo, aldo dropped his game so much in the later rounds and pettis is looks well bigger than him, i think pettis would outclass him and probably knock him out given his sick striking and power plus size advantage
Let me tell you something brother Pettis would put a hurtin on Aldo
