UFC light heavyweight contender Chael Sonnen and former UFC contender Kenny Florian made their calls for Saturday’s UFC 156 main event last night on FUEL TV’s UFC Tonight.
Sonnen clearly believes in the underdog this weekend, selecting former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar over UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo:
“I think Edgar is too fast for him. I think he can out box him, out wrestle him, and – should he need to – out condition him. I’m taking an upset – I’m taking Frankie Edgar to become the world champion once again. I think they’re going to go 25 minutes and I think it’s going to be a fantastic thing to watch.”
Kenny Florian, who lost to Aldo in his final bout at UFC 136, believes Edgar has the right tools to take the title. However, the former championship contender believes the champion will retain his belt at UFC 156:
“If this was a rematch, I’d say 1000 percent Frankie Edgar. He’s going down to 145 for the first time, he’s facing Jose Aldo for the first time and I think Aldo has a little too much weaponry for this one and he’s going to be the bigger man.”
UFC 156 will take place this weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada. The card will be anchored by the aforementioned featherweight title bout between Champion Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar. The co-headliner of the evening will be Rashad Evans taking on Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in a bout that got a bit more interesting following UFC on Fuel 7. Joining them on the card will be the return of top heavyweight Alistair Overeem as he takes on Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva.

Florian wasnt a champion
Let’s just let Kenny have this one c’mon guys.
Former champion?
Fixed, thanks guys.
@Chris, the timing for your fix on the article was pretty good, I went in to edit it and it said you had done it 1 minute ago. Almost in sync there! ha
I don’t know who to go with, Frankie has proven me (and many others) wrong before, the guy is almost always the underdog but usually manages to come out on top. Aldo on the other hand has seemed almost unstoppable, though he showed signs of being human in his fight with Hominick when he gassed in the 5th, which could be one of Edgars keys to victory. I’ll make my predictions for this card when we post our picks, but even now only 3 days out I still don’t know who I’m going to go with.
FRANKIE BABY !!!
i think cardio wins this fight for F e.
It’s going to be a draw after Edgar gets dominated in round 1 and loses round 2 but comes back and takes the last 3 rounds. We all should know this outcome
It almost seems a given that Frankie loses the first 2 rounds in this.
