UFC 159 has added a pair of bouts for their April fight card. A light heavyweight matchup between heated foes Phil Davis and Vinny Magalhaes is now set for New Jersey. Joining the pair will be a heavyweight slugfest between Cheick Kongo and Roy Nelson. The UFC announced both pairings late Tuesday night.
There is little love lost between light heavyweights Phil Davis and Vinny Magalhaes. The two grapplers have been sparring for weeks now and it appears they will get a chance to settle their differences in April. Davis was last in action at UFC 153, where he annihilated Wagner Prado in a dominant display of all-round grappling. Magalhaes made a successful return to the promotion at UFC 152 by defeating Igor Pokrajac.
Cheick Kongo and Roy Nelson will square off this April in what will likely be an absolute slugfest. The bout came together after Kongo turned down a short notice bout with Nelson this past December after Shane Carwin was injured. Kongo said he had no problem facing Nelson, but he just does not take short notice fights any more. Nelson would face Matt Mitrione instead, where he blasted his TUF 10 teammate with his trademark power.
UFC 159 is set for Newark, New Jersey. The card will be headlined by a matchup of The Ultimate Fighter 17 coaches, UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen. The card will take place April 27 and tickets went on sale last week.
