It would appear that the ONE FC Lightweight Championship will be up for grabs when the Asian promotion returns to Singapore Indoor Stadium on April 5. It will be former DREAM titleholder Shinya Aoki meeting the reigning champion Kotetsu Boku at ONE FC’s homecoming.
Wesley De Souza of The Fight Nation first reported the news.
Boku (20-7-2) captured the ONE FC Lightweight Championship at ONE FC 6: “Rise of Kings” in October. “No Face” defeated Zoro Moreira in a fight for the ages that saw both men go to war. While Boku opened strongly, the Brazilian was able to battle back. It was in the third round, however, where the Japanese fighter would land a giant overhand right, which forced referee Yuji Shimada to step in and call the bout at 31 seconds of the period.
Aoki (32-6) is 9-1 in his last 10 bouts. The Japanese submission specialist made his promotional debut at the aforementioned ONE FC 6, submitting Arnaud Lepont with a triangle choke 85 seconds into the first stanza. “Tobikan Judan” most recently competed at DREAM 18 on New Year’s Eve, forcing Antonio McKeeto submit to punches just 24 seconds into the second round of their bout. The grappling ace will now look to extract revenge on Boku for his friend and teammate, Zoro Moreira.
