A pair of bouts featuring bantamweights and featherweights have been added to UFC 158. First off, featherweight contenders Darren Elkins and Antonio Carvalho will meet in the Octagon. In the other bout, bantamweights Mitch Gagnon and Isse Tamura will square off. UFC officials announced the pairings earlier today.
It is currently unclear where the two bouts will land on the March card, however it is like;y that both bouts will end up on either the FX or Facebook preliminary cards.
Antonio Carvalho has won two straight since dropping his UFC debut to Felipe Arantes. Carvalho has since notched two straight wins, defeating Daniel Pineda via knockout and Rodrigo Damm via split decision.
His opponent, Darren Elkins, is 5-1 in the UFC. Elkins has quietly won four straight bouts since dropping to featherweight. The title contender has notched victories over Michihiro Omigawa, Tieqhaun Zhang,Diego Brandao, and Steven Siler.
Bantamweights Mitch Gagnon and Isse Tamura will be looking to establish a bit more consistency in their bout. Both fighters are currently 1-1 in the promotion.
UFC 158 is scheduled for March 16 and will take place at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The bout will be headlined by a welterweight title fight between Georges St-Pierre and Nick Diaz, with Rory MacDonald and Carlos Condit co-headlining the card. The bout will feature yet another high profile welterweight clash between Johny Hendricks and Jake Ellenberger.
