Couture Ekes Out Victory Over Noons in a Firefight
Ryan Couture and KJ Noons ended the Strikeforce preliminary card in style with a wicked three round fight. Noons would pay the price for loading up a bit too often and would drop a split decision to the son of the UFC Hall of Fame member. The decision was a somewhat controversial win, with several calling the bout for Noons and smaller amount seemingly calling the bout for Couture. In the end it does not matter, since both men likely punched their cards for the UFC tonight.
Kennedy Submits Smith
US Army sniper Tim Kennedy submitted Trevor Smith in his final Strikeforce appearance tonight in OKC. Kennedy executed a beautiful counter attack off a single leg attempt to finish the bout via guillotine choke. Kennedy set up the choke with a short strike that forced Smith’s head inside and allowed Army veteran to land a brutal standing guillotine that he ended up finishing on the ground with a strong amount of torque. The win was Kennedy’s first win since losing to champion Luke Rockhold last summer.
Healy Edges Holobaugh
Pat Healy got all he could handle early from late-newcomer Kurt Holobaugh. While the new fighter would bring his best into the cage, it just was not enough to overcome the smothering wrestling of the Team Quest product. Healy has now won six straight and will certainly have his next fight in the Octagon.
Gracie Submits Smith
Roger Gracie recovered from a rough first round to notch a slick submission victory over Anthony Smith. The member of the prestigious Gracie family then took full advantage when the fight hit the canvas and finished the bout via arm-triangle. Gracie will likely find himself in the UFC after going 3-1 with Strikeforce.
