Strikeforce lightweight challenger Pat Healy has reportedly drawn undefeated prospect Kurt Holobaugh for Strikeforce’s January fight card. The bout has been verbally agreed to at this point but is still unofficial at the time of this post. MMAJunkie first reported the bout on Wednesday.
Holobaugh is the third opponent for Healy. The Team Quest product was originally due to face Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez before Melendez was forced out with injury for a second straight time. Melendez’s replacement, Jorge Masvidal was also forced off the card with injury.
The final January event will take place at the home of the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Chesapeake Energy Arena. The arena was the original site for “Strikeforce: Cormier vs. Mir” before the event was canceled prior to the November show. The card will be headlined by welterweight champion Nate Marquardt facing Tarec Saffiedine and Strikeforce Grand Prix champion Daniel Cormier taking on Dion Staring.
