While former Bellator Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez has been expected to join the ranks of the UFC since fulfilling his Bellator contract, it would seem that little to no headway has been made on the part of Zuffa in acquiring the perennial lightweight talent.
While Dana White remained mum as to details of the current situation, as he is currently unable to discuss the issue, he did say that “It’s gonna get ugly,” when asked about Alvarez.
While Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney stated that he would waive the initial negotiation period due to his relationship with Eddie, even granting his release, the promotion would retain matching rights once an offer by the UFC was made.
Now that the Zuffa brass has made an official offer, the next move is Bellator’s. However, it is no secret that both Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta both covet Alvarez, who is one of Bellator’s most recognizable talents.
There seems to be no immediate end in sight to the saga of Eddie Alvarez, as the UFC President projects a back-and-forth battle over the the Blackzillians fighter.
