The Ultimate Fighter 16 concluded last Saturday night at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada with Team Nelson’s Colton Smith becoming the latest champion in the show’s history. The UFC announced the in-show bonuses for the event on last night’s FX broadcast, with fighters Mike Ricci, Colton Smith, Eddie Ellis, and Jon Manley pocketing an extra $25,000 for their efforts on the show.
Team Carwin’s Mike Ricci was awarded “Knockout of the Season” after his wicked knockout of teammate Neil Magny in the show’s semifinal. Ricci rocked Magny into desperate scramble before the Canadian fighter put down his teammate with nasty elbow that punched his ticket to last night’s final.
Team Nelson’s Jon Manley won “Submission of the Season” for submitting Team Carwin’s James Cheney. Manley and Cheney engaged is a scramble-fest of sorts with Manley having to fight his way out of a triangle choke before securing the fight-ending guillotine choke. Manley was eliminated by Smith in the semifinals.
Winning “Fight of the Season” was a battle between Team Carwin’s Ellis and Team Nelson’s Smith. The two engaged in a wicked back-and-forth battle that many believed should have gone to a third round. Smith would be named victorious via a majority decision however, and went on to win last nights final.
