It was a night of explosive action where a bevy of fighters laid their respective claims to The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale’s bonus pot but in the end only four fighters ended up $40,000 richer as Tim Elliot , Jared Papazian, T.J. Waldburger, and Pat Barry earned $40,000 extra for their efforts.
It may have been the first fight of the evening, but flyweights Tim Elliot and Jared Papazian fought like it was a main event and were rewarded with “Fight of the Night.” While Elliot controlled the fight on the scorecards, it was not for lack of effort on Papazian’s part. The win elevated Elliot to 1-1 in the promotion, while Papazian dropped to 0-3 in the Octagon.
T.J. Waldburger gave a rude welcoming part for Nick Catone’s welterweight debut to earn “Submission of the Night.” Waldburger staggered Catone to start the second and hooked in a guillotine attempt on the New Jersey-native who shot a double in desperation. Catone would work out of the guillotine only to find himself caught in a triangle that quickly put him to sleep.
Pat “HD” Barry needed a win in a big way Saturday night and he certainly netted one with a brutal knockout of Shane del Rosario to earn “Knockout of the Night.” Barry survived a tense final minute in the first frame to get to the second and he made the most of his new life. Barry sent Rosario reeling to the cage and quickly pounced with a series of power shots that sent the former Strikeforce fighter to the canvas in a heap. The “Knockout of the Night” bonus was Barry’s fourth performance bonus in his UFC career.
