Viana Floors Duran
It certainly was not the most technical fight but TUF:Brazil semifinalist Hugo Viana drilled Reuben Duran with a big shot that likely knocks the California fighter out of the UFC. “The Wolverine” attacked with wild punches before connecting with a big overhand right that floored Duran. The win keeps Viana’s professional record perfect and makes him 2-0 in the UFC.
Rio Comes Back to Submit Cofer
TUF: Live veterans Mike Rio and John Cofer put on a fun three round fight in Las Vegas. Cofer appeared to be in the lead heading into the third round, landing some devastating strikes and doing a great job defending Rio’s wrestling. Feeling he needed a finish to get the win, Rio launched into a furious ground assault that included a variety of submission attempts before finally landing a fight ending armbar to seal the victory in the final minute.
Elliott Controls Papazian
Tim Elliot had to bounce back from an illegal knee in the first round but managed to get a dominant win over Jared Papazian. The two fighters, who nearly came to blows before weigh-ins yesterday, certainly showcased the speed and technique the flyweights are known for. Elliot managed to build his lead with fantastic wrestling and some unorthodox but accurate striking and never relented. The win moves the RFA veteran to 1-1 inside the octagon after dropping his debut to Jon Dodson earlier this year.
