Think Again! UFC 72 on Pay-Per-View

Posted by Kris Karkoski on May 9, 2007 at 12:11 am ET4 Comments

Despite the UFC announcing on UFC.com that the event would be free on Spike, the UFC has apparently changed their mind deciding to air the event on pay-per-view in the US, Canada and UK. This is a shock to most fans who were expecting to see the rather weak event for free on Spike.

Just days ago we learned that the main event was changed after Martin Kampmann went down with a knee injury. The main event is now Rich Franklin vs. Yushin Okami, likely for the number one contenders spot in the middleweight division.

I will have more on this development if it arises but it appears for now that the weak event will indeed be on pay-per-view. For the most recent information on the event check out our UFC rumors section.

Who wouldn’t pay $40 to watch Rory Singer mix it up with Jason MacDonald?

Dana White recently criticized boxing for having cards with only one good fight.

Lets hope there is an exciting addition to the fight card that we haven’t heard about yet.

  • Balfe says:

I paid about $200 for a ticket to this show. I was hoping Swick would replace Kampmann in the main event, I think his style would lead to a great fight with Franklin.

Forrest Griffin is always exciting too. But I do hope that at least one more big name is added to the card.

  • Kris says:

To address what both of you have said, the hope is that there will be another big name added to this card. There haven’t been rumors of who this might be but for a PPV most fans want something more before they decide to buy it.

  • Drew says:

No way that this PPV will get 200,000 buys if it stays the way it is right now. They are going to have to add a major fight for this to get even 350-400K buys.
