It seems a bit ironic that after delivering arguably the most stacked main card of the year, it’s the men of the undercard that get post-curricular attention but such is the case with UFC on Fox 5. Prelim combatants Yves Edwards, John Albert, and Scott Jorgensen were handsomely rewarded for their efforts, taking home $65,000 bonuses each.
It was Scott Jorgensen that took home the largest bonus check of the night. The PAC 10 Champion walked out of the Key Arena in Seattle, Washington a grand total of $130,000 richer as he earned both a “FIght of The Night” and “Submission of The Night” bonuses after his incredible bout with John Albert. The fight saw both men hold the advantage throughout the five-minute duration, and was a nearly flawless display of grappling on both ends. While both men were able to gain the upper-hand, it was “Young Guns” that would put nail to pine in the final second of the bantamweight affair. When Jorgensen took the back of the “Prince,” he locked in a rear-naked choke and put an end the his night, with less than one second left in the period.
It’s been almost two months since the proposed lightweight tilt between Yves Edwards and Jeremy Stephens fell by the wayside due to the legal issues of “Lil’ Heathen,” but expectations were met and surpassed when both men put fist to face. “The Thugjitsu Master” had a clear advantage striking, and the potential kill-shot power of the Iowa native was no match. Stephens’s willingness to open up too much proved to be his undoing as he was met with a perfectly timed right hand by Edwards. Yves wouldn’t relent, following Stephens to the ground and separating him from his senses with a series of punches and elbows on the ground at 1:55 of the first round.
