The return of DREAM on New Year’s Eve continues to take shape as another pair of bouts have been added to the bill. Former DREAM Featherweight and Bantamweight Champion Bibiano Fernandes returns to the promotion to meet DEEP champion Yoshiro Maeda. Also taking place is a middleweight bout between Denis Kang and Melvin Manhoef.
Fernandes (12-3) on a four-fight win-streak. “The Flash” spent a great deal of the summer being courted by the UFC, alas nothing would come of it. The Brazilian would sign to ONE FC, where he posted a dominant victory over Gustavo Falciroli in August. Maeda (30-11-4) is riding a two-fight run of his own, both of which came via second-round rear-naked choke. The Japanese fighter wrested the DEEP Bantamweight Title from Takafumi Otsuka in February, and went on to defend it against Tatsumitsu Wada in August.
Kang (35-15-2) recently rebounded from a rough 2011, in which he went 1-3, with a knockout victory over Hae Suk Son in June. Manhoef (26-9-1) is on a two-fight win-streak behind a failed Strikeforce run. “No Mercy” took a devastating knockout win over Ryo Kawamura at ONE FC 6 in October.
DREAM 18 takes place New Year’s Eve at the Saitama Super Arena in Japan. The event will feature MMA and 16-man heavyweight kickboxing tournament in a co-promotion with Glory World Series.
