Dana White has confirmed that due to Dominick Cruz’s second ACL surgery, interim UFC Bantamweight Champion Renan Barao will not sit out and wait for the incumbent champion, but will meet with highly touted prospect Michael McDonald in early 2013. While the UFC President remained mum as to an official date, he has confirmed that both men have agreed to the bout.
Barao (29-1) is undefeated in his last 30 fights. The Nova Uniao product stepped in to replace Cruz after his initial injury, and would go on to defeat Urijah Faber at UFC 149 to be crowned interim champion. The Brazilian prodigy originally opted to wait for the return of the champion, but can no longer do so. Pegado is 6-0 under the Zuffa banner, with victories over Brad Pickett, Scott Jorgensen, and the aforementioned former champion Urijah Faber.
McDonald (15-1) is on an eight-fight run. “Mayday” most recently competed at UFC 145 against, taking a brutal first-round knockout over former WEC champion Miguel Torres. The Californian is 4-0 in the UFC, with victories over Edwin Figueroa, Chris Cariaso, Alex Soto, and the aforementioned Torres.
