After rumors of a UFC 156 bantamweight meeting between former WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber and Vaughan Lee were shot down down by the Brit, “The California Kid” has reportedly agreed to a rematch with Ivan Menjivar at UFC 157. The two first met in 2006, in a bout that saw the Tristar product disqualified for an illegal kick to his downed opponent.
Faber (26-6) will hold home court advantage as UFC 157 takes place February 23 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. The former champion is coming off of a unanimous decision loss in an interim title bout against Renan Barao at UFC 149, where he was originally slated to meet career rival Dominick Cruz. “The California Kid” is 2-2 since the UFC/WEC merger, with championship losses to Cruz and Barao split by victories over former champions Eddie Wineland and Brian Bowles.
Menjivar (25-9) is 4-1 inside the octagon. After suffering his first promotional loss to Mike Easton at UFC 148, “The Pride of El Salvador” rebounded with a first-round “Submission of The Night” armbar against Azamat Gashimov at UFC 154.
While yet to be officially signed, verbal agreements for the bout are already in place.
