The Strikeforce swan song, now named “Marquardt vs. Saffiedine”, has seen a battle of Brazilian lightweights added to the bill as Jorge Gurgel and Adriano Martins will meet on January at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City.
Gurgel (14-8) is on a tough 2-3 run inside the San Jose-based promotion’s cage. The Ohio native makes his return to action for the first time since losing a unanimous decision to Joe Duarte last August. “J.G” took a quick submission victory over Billy Vaughan earlier in the year at Strikeforce: “Feijao vs. Henderson”.
Martins (23-6) is riding a four-fight win-streak on the Brazilian regional circuit. The Manaus native has finished three of his last four bouts, most recently punching out Jimmy Donahue at Jungle Fight 37 in March.
