Although the future of Josh Barnett is still uncertain in a post-Strikeforce world, the former UFC champion and perennial PRIDE star is headed to the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City on January 12 to take part in the promotion’s final event. Welcoming Barnett back to action will be heavyweight Nandor Guelmino.
Barnett (31-6) is 2-1 in the San Jose-based promotion’s cage. “The Warmaster” won his way to the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix finals, taking submission victories over Brett Rogers and Sergei Kharitonov, but came up on the losing end against Daniel Cormier in May, breaking his hand in the first period.
Guelmino (11-3-1) is on a seven-fight run. “The Hun” has fought three times in 2012, taking victories over Emil Zahariev, Ivo Cuk, and Sasa Lazic. The Austrian has earned six of his career wins via submission.
