Surging middleweight contender Chris Weidman was recently forced to pull out of a title eliminator against Tim Boetsch at UFC 155. According to the Hofstra wrestler, he’ll be going under the knife today to repair the torn labrum that kept him out of the bout.
The middleweight contender tweeted today, “Off to get surgery. Excited to get this over with and get rehabbing and come back stronger then ever.” When asked about his tentative return to the octagon by a fan, Weidman replied, “I’m told ill be at 100 percent at 4 months if everything goes smoothly.”
The prospect has looked nothing but dominant in his UFC run hitherto, unfortunately for him, this injury likely pushes him further from contendership. Teammate Costa Philippou will step in to face Boetsch, although the bout may no longer have title implications.
