It would be an understatement to say it has been a tumultuous time in the life of UFC middleweight contender Chris Weidman. First and foremost, the New York native recently lost his home to hurricane Sandy. To make matters worse for the Serra-Longo product, he has been forced to miss out on a much-needed payday with an undisclosed injury.
The Hofstra wrestler was slated to meet Tim Boetsch in a title eliminator at UFC 155, which takes place December 29 in Las Vegas.
Stepping in for Weidman will be his teammate, Costa Philipou, who recently had his own bout fall by the wayside at UFC 154 due to Nick Ring coming down with the flu. The Cypriot is on a four-fight win-streak and looks to insert himself into Dana White’s proverbial “mix” with a win over “The Barbarian”.
