MMAFrenzy’s coverage of UFC 154 continues with our recap of tonight’s opening bouts on Facebook. Fighters Matt Riddle, Ivan Menjivar, and Darren Elkins, all notched victories in the opening frame of UFC 154. Be sure to stay tuned to MMAFrenzy for continuing coverage of tonight’s event concluding with tonight’s main card on PPV.
Riddle Edges Maguire
In a rather dull affair to end the Facebook card, Matt Riddle took a unanimous decision victory over John Maguire. Both fighters took the bout on short notice and seemed unprepared to face each other. The highlight of the fight was a spinning kick by Matt Riddle that, while technically illegal, landed the hardest shot of the bout. Riddle is now 7-3-1 in the Octagon.
Menjivar Submits Gashimov
Azamat Gashimov looked to be in control of his bout with Tristar product Ivan Menjivar but was living on the edge by leaving himself vulnerable to multiple submissions. That recklessness would be his downfall as Menjivar would execute a perfect armbar attack that was punctuated by a Russian armbar finish. The win improved Menjivar to 4-1 in the UFC.
Elkins Smothers Siler
Darren Elkins was absolutely dominant against Steven Siler in the opening bout of the evening. Elkins out-grappled and out-struck Siler for three rounds to prevent TUF 14 veteran from doing much of anything in the opener. Elkins is now 4-0 at featherweight and will be looking for a step up in competition after tonight’s win.
