Report: Entire Affliction “Banned” Card To Be Broadcast
The entire, eleven-bout Affliction “Banned” card will be televised between Fox Sports Net and pay-per-view according to MMAJunkie.com:
Saturday night’s pay-per-view broadcast will run a full four hours and will feature eight bouts. Additionally, FSN will air three bouts, rather than the previously reported two fights.
In other words, between FSN and PPV, the entire “Banned” fight card will be televised.
“Every fight except the three that are going to be on [FSN] will be on pay-per-view,” Atencio said.
Affliction “Banned” is headlined by a WAMMA heavyweight championship bout between former PRIDE champion Fedor Emelianenko and former UFC champion TIm Sylvia. Andrei Arlovski vs. Ben Rothwell, Josh Barnett vs. Pedro Rizzo, Renato “Babalu” Sobral vs. Mike Whitehead, Matt Lindland vs. Fabio Negao, Edwin Dewees vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, J.J. Ambrose vs. Mike Pyle, and Ray Lazama vs. Justin Levens are also slated for the pay-per-view card.
Paul Buentello vs. Aleksander Emelianenko, Vitor Belfort vs. Terry Martin, and Mark Hominick vs. Savant Young will be featured on the free FSN card.

Just a thought. I think it would have been more interesting since they claim that this is the best card ever with all these heavyweights that they should have turned it into a tournament for the title. This could have been the first round. Take the top eight heavyweights that they have with Fedor and Tim being the 1 and 2 seeds with Arlovski, Lindland, etc. being the other participants. It would have built up more hype for them for Affliction 2 and 3. The 3rd event could have been the Championship event. Just an Idea that would have made it more interesting for me personally. I probably would have bought it then.

agreed, i think they tried to utilize fedor too much too soon cuz they thought it was the only way to break in. What are they gonna do if this guy gets hurt, or if he turns out to be less of a fighter after all this time off. i admire the willingness to go up against the ufc, but it seems like they didn’t think things thru to well and now they’re just trying to do gimmicky things to get viewers. and btw, 4 goddamn hours? i love this sport as much as the next guy but i don’t wanna be hangin out for that long to see one guy fight and a bunch of others that were once good or just mediocre.

what i don’t like about the free events is they don’t show the stuff between rounds or entrances. thats the only thing that bugs me. i wish it would be commercial free.

Hand on heart, if we had a channel in the uk that gave us the option to purchase this event I have to say I would. The anticipation of seeing Fedor fight is enough for me.

anyone who watches ufc instead of affliction is dumb…there is no reason to watch ufc instead…buy affliction its the best mma card ever ….what card has ever been more stacked…plus you can watch affliction on pay per view.and on fsn and watch ufc there is no reason to only watch ufc…if your a true mma fan you will watch affliction
and what if we dont watch ufc what will we miss the only reason to watch it is to see the beatdown that james irvin will give to anderson…what other fights are there in the ufc tommorow franca vs edgar…ohh wow what a meaningful match..and ya brandon never gonna win two titles vera making his 205 debut…and your gonna miss arlovski against rothwell, sylvia vs fedor, matt lindland,josh barnett,babalu,buentello and alexander for that

I’m actually really looking forward to the Frankie Edgar vs. Hermes Franca match. Edgar is a really tough kid and this is a good test for him against Franca. I know he lost to Maynard but I think Maynard is going to be force to reckon with as long as he doesn’t knock himself out anymore….haha!

Reading some these posts makes me think Dana White has hired a few bloggers to stick it to Affliction with negative posts. Full credit to Dana for raising the visibilty of the sport, but I only wish he was less focused on the $ and more on the interests of the sport and fighters.
I am a big Fedor fan… Love his talent, natural ability, and attitude. I hope he is still the same fighter, and if so there is no question that his heart and talent will win the day. This said, Im holding my breath to see what happpens, since there’s been a significant hiatus in his top-level fights. Good for Rim if he wins, but if he does it will be either because he catches him with a lucky punch or it’s because fedor has passed his prime. If it’s luck and fedor is still in good form then there is little question that fedor will avenge. If he’s gone past his prime, I won’t forget his legacy when he was undoubtly the best. The next great hope then would be Anderson Silva, also a very talented fighter.

Honestly, Seriously, Fedor vs Sylvia *IS* going to be a good fight. You have arguably the best HW in the world in Fedor fighting the UFC’s long time HW champion in Timmah. Now I understand completely that this isn’t Fedor vs Couture. That would be the best figt in HW ever. Totally understand but still, Fedor vs Sylvia is a good fight. (I have tim winning)
That being said there is STILL Barnett vs Rizzo which could easily be a good fight. You have AA vs Rothwell which just screams KO. You have Mark Homminik who is always fun to watch. I mean there are a LOT of good fights.
I’m paying for it. and I’m tivoing the UFC FN to watch later. Honestly A. Silva vs. Irvin doesn’t do a whole lot for me. But to se 4 of the top HW’s in the world fight it out is pretty dang nice.
I think they should shuffle the card around a little. Hominck Young should go to PPV. If they Focused on Paul and Vitor’s fights they might hold the hour. As it is I am channel surfing between the two cards.

Listen. Do you all not know , or just don’t care that UFC put this card up just to prevent attraction from Affliction?? This card was put together five weeks ago to draw people away from the Affliction. Then Dana comes on national tv to announce they are have a huge event FOR FREE. This is all kind of disturbing.

Glad you are catching them both.I would feel better about Anderson and James if they both were fined for the weight thing. 5 weeks we have been talking about 205 and its likt they don’t even care. Give Vera - Andy a chance it could be like a rematch of Diaz vs Gamburyan at 205… Vitor at 185 is a curiosity..Wish Pay and Alexs were going to go…That could have been a sleeper for fight of the night.

why is the ufc heavyweight champion on the affliction card
Anybody who is a fan of fighting could enjoy this ppv. Those of you complaining arent fans at all. Tim silvia hasnt fought in a long time, he was ufc champ for a minute and had some good fights with arlovski who is also on the card.Not to mention the ufc has a free event on spike at the same time with anderson silva moving up to 205 for the 1st time. Tonite is filled with plenty mma action any fight junkie can get their fix so dont complain about it folks. Enjoy the knockouts people they will come fast.
i went out this morning to put 420 dollars on my credit card so i could go home pay my bill order the fight by phone before i cleaned my house so my friends and i can watch the fights i dont know what you sissys are typing about and good thing i have a dvr im gonna record the ufc and watch that after the fedor fight not as good as pride fighting championships but its getting there
