UFC light heavyweight Stephan Bonnar has decided to retire after a strong career in MMA. Bonnar had reportedly considered retirement prior to being offered his UFC 153 bout with UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva. UFC President Dana White announced the news during an online MetroPCS fan chat.
Bonnar is perhaps best known as one half of the legendary TUF 1 light heavyweight final opposite Forrest Griffin. While never reaching the level of success that Griffin did, Bonnar was a consumate professional in the Octagon who always sought to entertain the fans win, lose, or draw.
Bonnar took to twitter to thank the UFC and the promotion’s fans, stating:

Bonnar, who also celebrated the birth of his first child following UFC 153, will likely return to the role of TV analyst for MMA bouts.
