The Strikeforce/Showtime conundrum strikes again as Strikeforce fighter Derek Brunson has been denied the chance to appear on the upcoming season of the The Ultimate Fighter. Brunson had made the final cut for the show before hearing the news that he would not be allowed to be on the show. Brunson tweeted the news on Monday.
The three-time DII All-American tweeted:
As you all know I tried out for The Ultimate Fighter made the show , flew to Vegas yesterday , weighed in today , filming was about to start . Showtime network called and said they wouldn’t release me from my Strikeforce contract . So no TUF for me . I want to thank Fox Network for being such professionals in trying to handle the situation. The 9-2 pro was hoping to be a part of the cast that will be coached by one of his Team Jackson teammates in UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
TUF 17 will debut sometime this January and will coached by Jones and former middleweight contender Chael Sonnen. The show will feature the middleweight division this year and will air on FX.
