MMAFrenzy continues to roll out our rankings with today’s look at the heavyweight division. Be sure to check out our previous rankings as we continue to work our way up to heavyweight. The rankings were created by each of our staff ranking fighters 1-10 and then taking an average of the scores to establish the final ranking for the fighters. Be sure to look for an update to the rankings next month.
MMAFrenzy Heavyweight Rankings
The heavyweight division may be the biggest mess outside of the top 5 in the division. While many people love the division for it's propensity to have vicious knockouts, it is that same factor that makes it hard to judge the division. This division was once close to being the premiere division but age, injuries, illness, drug tests, and busted prospects have hurt the division's image.

who gives a phuck about how he looks. what type of statement is that? why u all in his face?
im referring to bigfoots analysis
just a joke man… calm down…
How is struves average higher than brownes but lower in the rank
read what I said about Browne…
When is fabricio and mark hunt suppose to fight again?
Ok sorry about that I just seen the average and just didn’t read my bad on that.
Will there be a p4p ranking?
Naw, P4P doesn’t really work in my opinion, cannot compare guys like Jones to Mighty Mouse. Just put the #1s on a dart board and throw at them.
1-3 are fine, but the rest is pretty off IMO..hunt and Nelson are better than half the list.
1 Reem
2 Cain
3 junior
4 Cormier
5 Werdum
6 Mir
7 Nelson
8 Barnett
9 Hunt
10 Nog
I’d have Fedor at 6 immediately if he came back.
*1-5
Mir should be higher up simply based on the fact he won the title in 2004 and is still relevant and receiving title shots 8+ years later.
How the Fu** are struve (who got destroyed by nelson) and browne above roy nelson? Some of it makes alot of sense but alot of it is dodgey
I know it would be hard to do the p4p but I was just wondering cause it would be interesting to see where you put them.
@FlawLes: I agree with you. Bigfoot has always carried himself well in the industry. He deserved a more thoughtful analysis than something we could expect from some high school meangirl.
As far as the rest of the list, Barnett and Struve/Travis Browne being on it and Carwin and Nelson off it make me not take the list seriously. When’s the last time Bartnett’s even been clean (‘Reem for that matter, and I like ‘Reem but facts are facts.)? Regardless of recent performance, Carwin and Nelson should be on the list.
Carwin shouldn’t been on the list he hasn’t performed recently. What is he on one fight in the last year and a half or more. I like carwin but he shouldn’t be ranked the mention is good enough for now.
Yeah show the guy some respect, i mean what are you gonna call him next, bigfoot?
L like how Barett is ranked and it says “If not for a failed drug test, he would be a top ranked fighter.
Yeah and Ben Jonson would still have a gold medal if not for a failed drug test.
Drug tests are pretty important in 2012.
That was interesting about Cormier… what life-threatening incident did he have?
At the 2008 Olympics, his kidneys shut down while in the final weight cut for wrestling. It’s why he fights at heavyweight instead of cutting down to 205. There are serious, legitimate questions about whether or not he could or should cut that kind of weight.
His kidneys shut down after making weight at the 2008 games due to severe dehydration
I really hope Zuffa signs Barnett with the UFC (signing Cormier is basically a given).
Regardless of what went down in Affliction years ago, the dude is tough as nails, comes to scrap every time out, and has a great skill-set.
And has tested positive for steroids three times (that people know of).
