“Rampage” Turned Down TUF 17 Coaching Slot Opposite Sonnen

You can add Quinton “Rampage” Jackson to the list of names that the UFC looked to have coach TUF 17. Jackson revealed that he had been offered the opportunity opposite Chael Sonnen on the upcoming seventeenth season. UFC President Dana White confirmed the Jackson’s assertions on the matter. MMAFighting first reported the story.

Jackson reportedly turned down the opportunity because he had no interest in fighting Chael Sonnen because of the Oregon fighter’s style, stating:

“Forget TUF,” Jackson told MMAFighting.com “I’m not interested in that. I don’t want to fight Chael. He’s the kind of fighter that I don’t want to fight. He’s a boring fighter that just wants to hump people.”

White told the MMAFighting that Chael was very interested in coaching opposite Jackson and fighting him at the end of the season.

Jackson stated that while he really wants to fight Glover Teixeira, he also wanted a rematch with Forrest Griffin once the news of Chael Sonnen coaching TUF opposite UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones broke. Jackson reportedly wanted both the Griffin and Teixeira fights so badly he even offered to fight both men in the same night.

The 34-year-old Jackson has made it clear that he intends to retire when he turns 35 but that he still wants to leave an exciting last impression for UFC fans as his career winds down.

I’m a huge rampage fan but I saw an interview with Bas. He said he would slap Chael or something and now he doesn’t want to fight him. I understand though you don’t want to get humped for another 3 rds like he did to bader

The season would have been awesome with all the smack they would have been saying

  • Advent says:

I’m so sick of this crybaby BS from people like Rampage. He doesn’t want to fight wrestlers cause he doesn’t want to get “humped.” Well check it out ‘Page, this is MIXED Martial Arts. After you fought Hamill, you were talking all that, “Hey forreal doe, people dun forgot I was a wrestler and I can wrestle. I just like to knock people out.”

Then you try to talk sh!t to Joe Rogan, who would rape you on the ground, saying that you don’t throw kicks cause you dont want to get taken down… well then, LEARN SOME SWEEPS!!! Learn to get up. Learn reversals. Work on your takedown defense.

But please, just stop crying about everything. And now, they match you with Glover, and you come up with an excuse to not fight him. Its pathetic. What do you want then? You want Chuck, or another guy far past his prime, to throw the gloves and shorts on so you can try to tee off on them? GTFO here.

    Scared to fight a 35 year old middleweight…. damn….

he was asked a question and he gave an answer! your upset because he doesn’t want to fight a guy that he feels stalls fights and makes them boring? GTFO here.

talking smack on a very sucsessful fighter wanting to have an exciting last fight! imo

      (i like Chael now)

advent, a lil more research and understanding of rampage might make you think differently, or at least sound like you know what your talking about.

  • Kobe says:

Both Advent and windmiller make solid points, I think that Rampage at this point in his career has earned the right not to fight a wrestler if it is going to be his last fight in the promotion. But at the same time he needs to realize that you have to find a way to stuff/avoid takedowns and still implement his own gameplan, and I have know doubt that he knows this himself. Johnny Hendricks knocked out my guy Fitch in 12 seconds as someone who is FAR more experienced in the standup department Rampage has to look at fights like that one and say why can’t I do that in three full rounds.

    • Chris Leslie says:

Hendricks was one of the best wrestlers of the last decade and Fitch was injured as well, so that’s a little different. Rampage just doesn’t want to waste his time on uninteresting fights. He knows he isn’t making another run, so he just wants to go out as an exciting fighter and not just someone who has to fight an ugly fight against a wrestler. Personally, I don’t have a problem with that.

  • Kobe says:

What does Hendricks’ wrestling have to do with anything the fight lasted 12 seconds. I know that there are differences, I was just making a point that there are many fighters who manage to put on exciting fights against grind it out wrestlers so he shouldn’t be talking like that. I like Rampage but like Advent alluded to you look like a moron when you are competing in something called MIXED martial arts and you don’t like the fact that some people like to use different approaches to the sport then you do. Though like I said he has earned the right to fight a “brawler” in his last fight if thats what he wants.

  • Devin says:

I agree with Chris about rampage.

Dude I would love to see rampage fight first and Glover same night! Dana mine as well put it together now that he’s worried about ratings first!
