Report: Police Take Quinton “Rampage” Jackson To Hospital For Observation

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has been picked up by police yesterday for the second time in as many days and taken to the hospital for observation according to TMZ.com:
Sources say last night an Irvine police car was waved down by people near the place Rampage was staying who said he was acting weird. This, of course, following the insane chase the day before in which the UFC fighter hit several cars in his monster truck and was arrested at gunpoint.
We’re told Irvine cops saw Rampage, deemed him a danger to himself and others, and took him to a hospital for observation.
Cops won’t officially confirm if it’s a psychiatric hold.

This is a mental condition. Possible depression. If it were drugs, it would have came up in the police report. This is weird though, it is not like he wouldn’t have got a rematch quickly. I don’t see how the UFC can release him if it is a mental disorder, that violates all kind of laws. I agree, something bad is going to happen to him.

I don’t think he is acting this way because he lost. He didn’t start running people over in the streets of Japan when he lost to Silva 2x. This is a deeper issue that goes deeper than the loss to Forrest. This is a mental issue and/or a substance issue.

Betcha it’s not a mental despression type of thing. I’m willing to bet it’s an anger issue. he even said he used to have angry outburts, but got it under control… he said that on Ultimate Fighter. Anger is a serious problem, if that’s the case. Sucks, Rampage was everyone’s favourite…

I don’t think his loss to Griffin is the biggest factor contributing to Jackson’s meltdown. I think the pressure, the publicity, and the backlash are all contributing factors to Jackson’s meltdown.
Jackson is known to be humorous and a happy go lucky kinf of guy, but people also need to understand that he has his only troubling issues as well.
Not too long ago, Jackson became a born again Christian after having a horrifying nightmare and hearing in a radio station “Your soul is mine” and maybe he is confused right now. Losing a title to him could mean that God has turned his back on him. Who knows for sure?
From the interview he did with Throwdown before the incident it clearly shows that he is confused about things. His employment, managers, and where his life is going.
I hope that he gets well soon and that he is under care. People who are laughing or bashing at Jackson make me sick and clearly shows that your character portrays that you are heartless.

But you know what I think it was because he did tell Forrest that the fight wouldn’t go out the first round and it did. He also said he would even bet his whole purse on it. A loss like that would make anybody crazy.He even made a remark that he would show the fighters on TEAM RAMPAGE how it’s done. Then he losses WOW!That’s big.He definetly went crazy after his loss to Forrest.If I were Rampage I wouldn’t go grazy after I fought Sylva either Silva is a bad ass.You can’t compare Forrest to Sylva.Maybe now you can.But we’ll see.
It’s sad amd I feel bad for him if its true.He’s been through alot of self defeating behaviors. Might be a good time to rethink the career choice.
This has the makings of a Mike Tyson situation all over again. Tyson was diagnosed bi-polar in his early twenties and put on medication for the rest of his life (because that’s all psychiatry can do other than mild psycho-educational info. sessions). The meds make people feel lousy and they typically look like they’ve been hit over the head with a sledge hammer – consequently nobody wants to stay on their meds. In Tyson’s case it’s believeed his handlers took him off his meds about 90 days prior to every bout and put him back on about a week after each fight – which explains why he’d fall apart around fight time. I’m not saying that Rampage and Tyson are one and the same but the fight game hasn’t changed and neither has psychiatry. If Rampage gets a bi-polar diagnosis: 1) It’s likely inaccurate (I worked in psychiatry for fifteen years and am well versed in the criteria) and 2) He will have been sentenced to a doomed existence. Let’s hope Dana knows how to look out for one of his best.

Why are you guys getting mad at each other. Rampage’s problems can be entertaining news because of who he is but bottom line…..it sucks for him. Two weeks ago Rampage probably felt on top of the world. His actions show/prove he feels like **** and is losing his mind. He seemed off the night of the fight and since then look what has happened. He has broke down and we(the public) have no idea what else is going on in his “PERSONAL” life. We should sympathize with his current state and not get joy from it other than being excited for his well being.
I am interested in Wm’s call because it sounds like he’s seen a little bit of this and 1 it is easy to misread all psych illness with a DSM4 and 2 Bipolar seems like the flavor of the month. You could just as easy make a case for BPD or depression and narcissistic(?) rage.

I don’t know. He’s under observation with guys who have the authority to change the way people view Rampage forever and you don’t know whether or not they are trustworthy . You also have investors in Rampage who want to spin this in a way that hurts their wallets the least. The two sides have conflicting mandates neither of which is the well-being of Rampage. What I do know is that anyone who comes out saying “We don’t understand what is going on with him and we are going to move slowly until we know how to assist him effectively.” will likely be the good duy in this mess and hopefully can stick with Jackson throughout.
speaking from experience with a familly member, a nervous breakdown and or other mental disorders causes people to do stuff they aren’t even aware of or have the ability to control. it’s pretty hard to tell cuz there’s no physcial symptoms, but it’s legit and if this is what’s goin on with rampage, then people should lay off cuz he’s not an idiot if he can’t control his actions. i guess we’ll wait and see what turns up. btw, if this is the case, the all you douches sayin how retarded he is are gettin a big fat i told you so, lol.
Rampage should not be treated anything like or close to JT. Rampage is a proven fighter with a great history. JT is a good wrestler who humiliated himself on TV. Rampage seems to need help for an emotional, mental and physical illness of sorts. JT was just stupid. Rampage needs to observed and then things should be taken from there.

Everyone has problems but we don’t deal w/ them like an f’n retard now do we? Rampage did…so now he needs to rectify what he has done. Let’s try and forget the fact that this is Rampage who did this and most everyone would have the same reaction, you deserve to be in jail for hit and run/evasion etc. but since this is somebody alot of people admire our own personal feelings get mixed w/ our better judgement. I’m definitely curious (like the rest of you I’m sure) to see what’s going on. There has to be much more to this story than is being told right now because of how out-of-character it all seems.

I just hope he gets the help he needs and gets back where he belongs, in the ring. He’s a strong fighter with an entertaining personality. Ever since he entered the UFC, I’ve looked forward to his interviews and comments. I came to like him even more when he accepted his loss to Forrest and kept his cool.
You have to admit that it’s ridiculous for any of us to try to speculate about what’s going on with him. Our energy would be better spent by making him aware of his fanbase and offering our support as many of you have already done.
Remember, we as fans represent MMA just as much as the fighters.

rydawg, bi polar sucks, but it’s one of many different things you can have. there’s nothing to “man up” about. the first symptom my mom showed was by going into a target and shoplifting. 2 hours later she had no recollection of the event. not the same as some regular person going in to steal a bunch of **** just cuz they dont wanna pay. i have all the sympathy in the world for the victims but again, if it’s a mental issue coming into play, it’s not something that was done maliciously. had he done this in a clear state of mind, then he’s an asshole and deserves to be punished.

UFC my English brother. I obviously have alot against Affliction but it comes down to money. I will not and cannot pay for a Sylvia main event. I promised myself that when he was still with the UFC. Sylvia’s lazy jab and clinch fighting is far too depressing for me to watch. He is where he is because of size more than fighting skill. I take no offense. We all joke here…I know that. I am amazed at how many mental health workers that are here. Actually, I AM a mental health worker in OC and honestly, you guys need to get off the dime store psych and stick to what you know. Someone mentioned Bi-polar, and stated how the meds make them look like they got hit with a slaedge hammer. Well, sorry to break it to you but I work with Bi-polar D/O all day long and in most cases the meds have some minor edie effects but don;t make people feel lousy. We don;t use meds to keep YOU safe from them, but to help them with the condition.
the meds don;t simply treat the Symptoms, they treat the root of the couse of the problem, biochemical imbalance in the brain. The meds correct the imbalance as much as possible by facilitating the brain’s natural functioning for it.
Honestly, I hate to rant but what I hate more is all the misinformation and half-truths nonmental health workers out there spout off about like it is true, when you have never read an actually psych book in your life or taken a class aside from maybe general ed.
Rampage is suffering from stress and depression which can have a TEMPORARY effect like a more sevre mental illness. This is not uncommon for a person like a pro althete. he is out of the average age range by far to develope a mental illness, people in their 30s rarely develope it then.
people, in other words stick to what you know or learn what you are talking about before you condem him to be the next mike tyson.

If its Bipolar its the meds or the gym not both…It just doesn’t work…I hope its just depression as he might be able to fight if he choses with counseling and monitoring.
