The head of Black House and manager to Anderson Silva, Ed Soares, joined MMA Live last night and spoke on “The Spider’s” prospective super-fight with UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre. Soares intimated that Anderson Silva would prefer to meet GSP next and is willing to do so at a catchweight, if need be.
“People argue back and forth (about) who the greatest pound-for-pound fighter in the world is. Some people say it’s Anderson, some people say it’s Georges St-Pierre. So I think the way to settle would be, I don’t know, do a catch weight at 177 1/2, right down the middle, and see what happens,”
While St-Pierre has proven to be unwilling to move up and face Silva unless the move to middleweight is permanent, he has been more receptive to the bout of late, perhaps the suggestion of a catchweight might be the final push needed to make this long-discussed bout official.

Seriously Andreson can be such a pus-s-y. Picking fights he knows he has huge advantage and ducks the one he don’t (Jones – LHW Contender)s. I mean GSP vs Silva still good but I feel he is a b!tch about it.
He said he’d fight Jones, just not at 205
You think Jones can lose anymore weight? Has Jones mentioned anything about being able to?
Do I think he can? Unlikely anymore than one or two pounds. Guy is an extremely lean 205.
Meanwhile, a lot of people have been saying GSP has the style to beat Silva for years…
That’s probably the last word I’d call the toughest guy ever to walk the earth.
After seeing Bonnar not even come close to taking silva down, I really believe GSP has no chance and should think about fighting at 155 if he wants another weight class.
Because Bonnard is in the same league wrestling wise as st.pierre…. Wtf man, litter too him down multiple times, do you even watch mma?
@duderama
yes i do watch mma. I assume you mean Travis Luter who is also bigger than GSP and didn’t make weight in that fight. It was also earlier in Anderson’s career and I believe he had just had his knee scoped. I agree GSP has a different more explosive wrestling/TD style than Bonnar but its one thing to take a WW down vs a big MW. GSP uses strikes and reach advantage to set up his td’s how will he do this against the best counter striker in mma? I like GSP more than Spider but I’m a realist and have no interest in seeing a horrible mismatch.
Silva said he’d fight Jones @ 205 for a non-title bout, so it wouldn’t conflict with his blackhouse 205 fighters title contention.
GSP would die against Anderson, and Silva knows it… You can tell he is scared to fight Jon Jones because he doesnt want Jon to rain elbows down on his face. Its like he is telling Ed Soares please dont let them make me fight Jon Jones…But its too bad because I actually think Anderson is the best fighter ever and he would beat Jones as well..
okay okay, heres my take on the situation, GSP has no chance standing the fight up, face it we all seen his stand up, compared to Silva, there is none, while GSP is awesome with take downs, his BJJ is NO match for silva, weve seen a bunch of greats try to tap Silva, but i believe we will have anothe Silve vs Sonnan on our hands with GSP take downs and Silva dominating all the stand up, its true, its true i tell you its true for all you GSP fans, GSP is a great fighter no disrespect at all, hes a cautious fighter and a smart fighter and i love watching him fight, just not going to happen against Silva, so wake up!!!!!
my take on the Silva vs Jones fight, wow now i believe tyler said Silva is a p-u-s-s-y, well then you fight him
dumbass, Silva has a huge advantage on every fighter, use your brain! Silva vs Jones would be a great great and intense fight to watch, but im telling you silvas knees, and elbows are way more harder and tougher likes bricks than Jon Jones, silva is faster and could duck punches, and i believe it will be a back and forth fight, but in the end the experience and MMA fight advantage Silva would have over Jones would end up winning! Not needed – Will
Not saying u guys aren’t telling the truth, but for my own curiosity where/when did Anderson say he’d fight Jones @205, be it for the title or not?…..I hadn’t heard or read that before.
Last week, on Brazilian TV
http://sportv.globo.com/site/eventos/combate/noticia/2012/10/pelos-fas-anderson-silva-admite-luta-com-jon-jones-em-peso-combinado.html#canal-sportv
Anderson the duck Silva. Won’t fight Jones or any legit LHW but he’ll fight the smaller GSP. What a poor excuse for a champion. This will be similar to Cain vs Brock with the smaller far more skilled fighter giving the beat down. GSP by TKO!
Poor excuse for a champion because he won’t fight “any legit LHW”? He’s not the champ at 205! Man, too many people coming down on Silva for being so good, now he has to beat the champs in all of the other divisions just to be legit. Than what?…put him against the animal kingdom? Andersen Silva is a P-word ‘cuz he only fights primates and not elephants and jungle cats! You have to be kidding me.
Your right he’s not the champ at 205. Never will be.. and the UFC won’t match him up against any top contender at 205 cuz he may lose. We will never see a fight like Silva vs Machida, Shogun, Jones… They give Silva easy fights so he can win in impresive fashion… Bonnar, Irvin, Forest..
He is the most protected overrated fighter in all or MMA. We will never see Silva vs Machida, Jones, Gustafsson.. Instead they mathch him up with less skilled fighters like Irvin, Griffin, and Bonnar. They keep giving him easy fights so he can win in impressive fashion. Bonnar was like a 14-1 underdog. Way to go Silva!
he pretty much said he would fight jones if jones took it
Silva vs. GSP = Pound for Pound #1 vs. Pound for Pound #2 = Boring fight. I agree with a previous post about how this will be a takedown event for GSP, however I don’t think that he will be able to keep Silva down as Sonnen had success in doing. But if Silva gets up GSP just takes him down again. I give this fight four rounds to one to GSP. However if GSP can’t close the distance “in which I think he will” he gets knocked out in the second.
Silva vs. Jones = Pound for Pound #1 vs. Pound for Pound #3 = Fight for the ages. This would be talked about forever. I beleive this fight would show how much superior that Silva is in his striking than Jones. Jones will be at Silva’s level someday, but this will happen way after Silva has already hung up the gloves. If this fight happens soon, Silva wins by TKO in third or fourth. If this fight happens two years from now, Jones wins by TKO. I just don’t think that Jones is on the level quite yet to dethrone the #1 man in the world.
GSP would have a great chance based on his elite, Olympic level wrestling. Also his stand up and jab are amazing. I mean come on. What’s up, the guy doesn’t fight for a year and everybody forgets what kinda unstoppable force he is?
Sure spider wants to fight him because he thinks he can win easier than he can against bones IMO, but he still had to take the risk. And its not to say he won’t fight bones after, which you see he said he’d do.
Forrest was considered a top contender when they fought and Bonnar could’ve been considered just outside the top 10 before that fight. Regardless, he fights at 185 naturally, he can’t even weigh 205 if he tried, and you damn sure don’t see anyone not named Penn moving up and contending with the best in the world, so its not like he owes that to anyone. Calling him a pussy is delusional
LMAO is all I have to say to this fight. GSP has zero chance.
heres the real problem, you can say silva has faught easy guys, won by incredible fashion, idk its seems like every time silva wins, everyone gets on this sight and others, and digs him a grave, spits on him, why?
there are all sorts of fighters, including me who train, take fights, work hard, harder than most, maybe not as hard as they need, but anyways everyone would like a crack at silva, everyone says with high hopes they will and are going to beat silva, never happens, he has finished all of them, whether toying with them, points, sub, knock out, i mean damn, yall step up or shut up, peeps who just watch, who are just critics, dont know. GSP is no match, and im not disrespecting gsp, hes a great fighter, but whens the last time he knocked out, submitted??? hes too cautious, which can be fine. then everyone thinks Silva is a p—y for not wanting to fight the likes of machida, jones, if he doesnt want to so what, hes good enough and way more qualified to fight anyone, well i wont go so far as heavyweight lol, from 185-205 silva dominates, i mean i dont see rashad, rampage, blah blah anyone beating him, and jones would be a great fight, but i have silva on top. so before we start slamming Silva, lets all look, myself included in the mirror, and slamm ourselves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I do train and fight and I will say this, moving up a weight class “especially when that weight class is pretty much your walk around weight” it is tough to fight those guys that are fighting that weight cutting down 20 pounds or so. It just goes to show at what level Silva really is compared to the rest. I do disagree with your statement that GSP is not a match for Silva. They both dominate their fights, just in different ways. GSP has become cautious and strategic over the years and he has openly admitted that recently. Its the other fighters job to not allow themselves to be taken down and laid on for five minutes. Someone that comes out of a fight losing all rounds without evident damage was still dominated in that fight. Being a fighter with knowledge of the sport, I am sure you truely appreciate and know that fact. I mean besides the Sonnen and Shields fights how many rounds combined have GSP and Silva lost total. Very few. Although Silva has fought far fewer rounds total being that he usually finishes fights before the championship rounds.
i agree with you, i respect GSP, and he does dominate. i just think anderson has and is on another skill level, thats all, itll be GSP take downs vs. anderson stand up and BJJ!
Silva is overrated, only takes easy fights where he has a clear advantage which makes him appear better than he really is..
