It would seem that news failed drug tests continues as two more fighters found themselves sidelined, this time it was revealed that welterweight Matt Riddle and bantamweight Franciso Rivera are currently serving suspensions behind positive post-fight drug tests from UFC 149.
Riddle (7-3) earned a “Submission of The Night” victory over Chris Clements, while Rivera (9-2) took a devastating first-round knockout over Roland Delorme.
Both fighters are carrying out a 90-day retroactive suspension, but will not have their wins overturned. Shirley Stunzi of the Calgary Combative Sports Commission, remained mum as to what exactly the banned substances were. However other reports have indicated that Riddle was suspended for marijuana and Rivera for an over-the-counter stimulant. Both men will be eligible to fight once again by this Friday.

Mac Danzig was on the joe rogan podcast a couple of weeks ago and he thought that roughly 60% of the fighters use steroids/hgh on a regular basis(continuously)and 85-90% have used them in the past. It was a good podcast and he seems like an interesting guy, worth listening to.
Nice a slap on the wrist for using banned substances. What message does it send to the rest of the locker room who are on similar stuff while Jake Shields just got suspended & his win over turned….
You are just now finding that out? Lol.
Have they changed testing procedures recently or something or did everyone just suddenly get lazy??
Some commissions don’t always release this stuff until after a hearing, not everyone wants a huge audience like CSAC and NSAC
Word. But what’s up with all the failed tests lately?
better testing? ;) idk
ding ding ding… @windmiller sticks the landing…
That said, then number of failed tests really isn’t “up” though, it’s the publication of said tests that’s increased. As for the 90-day suspensions, it’s quite simple, they likely notified the commission before their test that there might be an issue.
In Rivera’s case, you can pick up a pack of those “yellow-jackets” or any diet pill at a grocery store/gas station and most people will never know that the by-products of the pills can cause you to test positive for amphetamines and other stimulants. Even some energy drinks can do the same thing.
That’s what I was asking. So the testing is better?
Are there actually failed tests and small suspensions or no suspensions that we never hear about? Interesting, so they get shorter suspensions possibly if they inform them?
Well in that case, Nick Diaz, as much as I dont like him, shouldn’t have been suspended at all. I mean come on, besides the fact that it was non-psychoactive metabilites, who DOESN’T know that Nick blazes, lol? The commission should have been well aware. I kid, I kid. I know it was a second time for Nick, hence the more harsh suspension.
