With the proposed upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter now going to Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen, a clash of lightweight contenders between WEC imports Anthony Pettis and Donald Cerrone has now been slated to take place in January. While no official date nor venue has been assigned to the exciting lightweight match-up. MMAWeekly has confirmed that both men have agreed to the bout, with the winner likely receiving a title shot.
The delay comes due to a lull in former WEC champion Anthony Pettis’ recovery from shoulder surgery.
Cerrone is 6-1 in the promotion, currently riding a two-fight win-streak while Pettis has been slightly less active, putting together a 2-1 run inside the octagon.

This is going to be an excellent fight and one that I won’t be able to pick whose going to win because both these guys can end a fight in seconds. This has FOTN and/or FOTY written all over it.
Wish they would put it on that 155 card.
Two of my ABSOLUE favs. GREAT fight.
I meant ABSOLUTE. haha
man, this lockout is really driving you over the edge…
No kidding! And here I am with a brand new John Taveres jersey and no where to wear it…
@garrule if it makes you feel any better I still have all my Thrashers gear…
Aren’t they starting November 2?
@Will
You’re absolutely right, FOTN/FOTY possibility!
I agree with all of you, this is a fantastic fight with 2 of my favourite LW’s. This is one of those fights I have no fav’s or expectations except to see a great fight. I look forward to the winner facing off with Bendo/Diaz winner. I am so glad the LW division is finally moving forward with new challengers.
Does anyone know if this is a #1 contender match? I thought Dana said that a couple of months ago but it wasn’t mentioned here.
It’s somewhat unclear. when they were set for TUF, yes, now it’s an unknown.
