Cesar Gracie black belt and former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Jake Shields announced via press release last Friday that he had been suspended by the Colorado Office of Boxing Licensure for six months after a failed post-fight drug test, which proved positive for an as of yet named PED. Colorado’s athletic commission confirmed today that Shields has in fact been suspended and will sit on the shelf for six months as well as be fined $5,675.
Shields, who took a unanimous decision victory over Ed Herman at UFC 150 at the Pepsi Center in Denver in August, also sees his first win in the UFC middleweight division overturned.
The commission stated that “participants are prohibited from using any drugs, alcohol, or stimulants, either before or during a bout. Any substance other than plain water or a sports drink approved by the director is prohibited during the event,” still leaving the question as to what it was Shields tested positive for up in the air.

If it was coffee or beer I’m sure he’d clear the air by admitting it. The Diaz crew are pot heads so that could technically be it, but I’m guessing it was a stimulant cuz if I recall correctly he got to Colorado just before the fight and it would make sense that he was worried about stamina.
