UFC 153, which took place Saturday night at the HSBC Arena in Rio Janeiro, saw UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva move up to light heavyweight and take a dominant win over Stephan Bonnar, while his friend and trainer “Minotauro” Nogueira made his triumphant return to the octagon as he submitted Dave Herman. Also on the bill, Glover Teixeira officially announced his main card arrival to the 205 lb. weight class after putting down Fabio Maldonado in one of the most lopsided beatings in promotional history.
The time to look at options for the evening’s headlining fighters is now.
In yet another virtuoso performance, Anderson Silva moved up to the light heavyweight division and obliterated Stephan Bonnar in a one-sided affair.
Despite the clamoring for Silva to face Jon Jones, it is likely not going to happen. While a super fight with Georges St-Pierre is still an option, the UFC MIddleweight Championship must be defended some time in the near future.
The current timeline suggests that Silva will be facing the winner of the forthcoming Chris Weidman vs. Tim Boetsch bout or even Michael Bisping.
