Lyoto Machida vs. Thiago Silva at UFC 89
The UFC has announced that undefeated light heavyweight contenders Lyoto Machida and Thiago Silva will clash at UFC 89 “Bisping vs. Leben” on October 19th in Birmingham, England with a 205-pound title shot likely on the line. The event is expected to air on Spike TV.
Machida (13-0) has won all five of his bouts inside the octagon including his most recent win, a unanimous decision victory over popular former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz at UFC 84 in May. “The Dragon” also hold notable wins over Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, Kazuhiro Nakamura, BJ Penn, Stephan Bonnar, and Rich Franklin.
Silva (13-0) has won four straight in the UFC including his most recent victory, a UFC 84 win over Antonio Mendes, who Silva finished with strikes just over two minutes into the opening round. Silva has also defeated James Irvin, Tomasz Drwal, and Houston Alexander inside the octagon.

They are killing me!!!! These 2 are 2 of my favorite fighters and they have them clashing against each other, damn. They are trying to find someone that’ll push lyoto to the limit and I can dig it. I like both but I want the dragon to win, cause i feel a fight with forrest would be BANANAS!!! Forrest would def push him to the limits and with his size would cause a problem to the dragon.
It would be wonderful for the excitement and future of the LHW division if Machida loses. This fight does indeed make the card much better. I like Lyoto but have to pull for Thiago in this one.

Awesome matchup! But thinking about the reasons behind this matchup it should come as no surprise.
Let’s face it, for various reasons Machida and Silva are not the most ‘Bankable’ stars and it makes sense to match them up to remove one of them from the immediate title reckoning.

Why do so many think Forrest can’t beat Chuck, after he just beat Rua and Rampage? Chuck is not the same fighter he was 2 years ago, not everyone can be a Randy Couture and fight until they’re 50. Chuck might catch him, and I haven’t always been a Griffin supporter, but this would be a great fight, and Forrest would have a good shot at beating Chuck.

I also see Chuck beating Forres, but I also had Shogun beating him and Page beating him, and no matter what anybody says Forrest did win both those fights, flat out. I think Machida is going to beat Thiago Silva but I also don’t think Machida will be able to bet guys like Wand/Chuck/Page. Honestly, I don’t see Griffin vs Chuck ending by ko or tko. I see it going to a decision, and I have to think Forrest has the better stamina. Might be able to pull out the decision. Forrest is too smart to standthere and get pummeled like Tito did. Espicially after the humiliating loss to Jardine. Just my 2cents.

This is going to be the main event for me, especially since both of them are 13-0. Lyoto is a very dominate force and I believe he will take the fight. I think it will be close, but he will still get it. Two undefeated against each other, I’d take that any day!

there is nothing better than watching two top contender undefeated fighters put it all on the line this fight will be huge for both of them I have to go with silva on this one though that guy has an awesome standup and ground game
I am weary of fighters throwing kicks unless followed by a combo or flurry of punches against Machida because his style of defense. Tito was very unsuccessful in the clinch, could not get a takedown and I do not belive Thiago can do much better. As I see it, Thiago needs to be an aggresive boxer and work his way inside which will be very hard against Machida. Should Thiago work his way inside and manage to start landing punches, he needs to go for a takedown quickly. If he leaves Machida any time at all, Machida will clinch and karate spin his way out of it frustrating Thiago just like Tito. Aggressive dirty boxing and takedowns is the way to beat Machida. Easier said than done.
Spider might fight Wandy at 185…its not a given if they fought, it would be at 205!!!

I wanna see Rampage vs. Wanderlei Silva a rematch from Pride, Then you got Lidell vs. Evans in 88, and Machida vs Thiago Silva in 89. through Keith Jardine in th mix and the champ Forrest Griffin and you got an exciting lightweight chapionship for the rest of 2008 and 2009.
Machida Vs. Silva is a good fight still not that great of fight card…. was read a few days ago and it said Diego Sanchez Vs. Thiago Alves on this card now that was a awesome fight.. made this card decent with Sanchez and Alves but now this card looks really bad think it may turn out to be the worst of the year … come on Leben and Bisping as a main event??????? I’d like to see Machida Vs. Silva but there is no point for me it would be like spending 40$ just to see Lyoto and Thiago … I would have bought the card if Sanchez and Alves was still on it but its not so I’ll just save my money for a good card

my prediction for the Silva-Machida fight is that Thiago wins bt tko in the 3rd round. he’s knocked out everyone he’s fought so far. Unlike Machida who wins mostly by decisions.
