Former Oklahoma State wrestling standout and UFC lightweight Shane Roller has decided to retire following his UFC on FX 5 loss to Jacob Volkmann. Roller lost to Volkmann in rather decisive fashion this past Friday in Minneapolis via rear-naked choke. Roller announced the move via twitter.
Roller tweeted Monday:
“Looks like I’m hanging up the gloves for good. It was fun, but time to move on. Sux that it ended like that. Now startn the next chapter!!” [sic]
The 3x wrestling All-American had an up and down career in MMA. Roller showed promise in the WEC, tallying a 5-2 record with his only losses coming to current UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson and Anthony Pettis. When the WEC was absorbed by the UFC Roller struggled with the transition, going 2-4 in the Octagon.
