Last night UFC President Dana White gave an extensive interview on “UFC Tonight” with Ariel Helwani. In this segment of the video, the UFC President discusses the difficulties of working with TUF 16 coach Roy Nelson, even stating that he has been the worst coach to deal with in the history of the entire show.
Be sure to stay tuned to MMAFrenzy for the rest of the interview.

Dana driving the manure spreader over his least favorite fighters again.
Yeah right TUF is not about good tv. If it were just about finding the best fighters then why have a show where its 5% training 20% fights and 75% prank b.s. Seems the only reason is about TV. I’m amazed how he continues to piss in everybodys ears and tell them its just raining
I must say it seemed very strange to me when I first heard Roy was gonna be a coach, don’t get me wrong I’m a massive big country fan but he’s not someone you want to be your head coach, he’s got a granit chin but without that I’m not really sure he’d get very far in the UFC, he is in better shape now than he has been in the past but he still has a long way to go till he’s looking like an athlete. Like I said I’m a huge fan of his so this isn’t me having a dig at him
@Welsh
Oh and what, you think Shane Carwin is someone who should be a head coach? Please. At least Roy Nelson knows the fight game and can corner his fighters. At least he gets in there and spars with them. As a coach Roy Nelson is far superior in every manner speakable when compared to Carwin.
With that being said, the only reason Dana is saying anything is to build up hype so people watch this crap reality show. After last seasons massive failure and dwindling Friday night numbers, Dana will say whatever he needs to, to spark interest in a show that is getting worse and worse with every passing year.
The quality of fighters is at an all time low and the show might as well be called PUNKED and played on MTV. Dana has far more things to worry about than criticizing Roy Nelson’s coaching abilities.
So because Carwin doesn’t corner his fighters he isn’t a good coach. Like he said let the guys who usually do the cornering do it. Carwin doesn’t need to corner. He gets his fighters ready leading up to the fight and that is a good coach.
All Dana does is complain about Roy Nelson, complain about his attitude, complain about his marketability, and yet he gives him the prestigious position of coach on TUF, something very few UFC fighters every have the privilege to do. Sorry Dana I’m not buying it. But I am watching and loving the show, so you already win, without the antics buddy.
even then… not sure he expected as much trouble as he gets from him this season
I mean I don’t know everything that’s going on obviously, but how bad can it be..he’s a good coach, his team trains hard and seems to like him. The show will get tapped, champs will be crowned, and it’ll probably get good ratings. I honestly think Dana just has a personal problem with Nelson’s goof ball personality and his refusal to kiss his butt, and its created this little back and forth feud. I get that Nelson can be a bit childish, but it can’t be that big a deal. I think this is just a mix of Dana’s ego and some drama for the ratings.
Ratings have gone down the last three weeks (and they’re losing the main demo too), team isn’t fully behind him and his methods really… And he’s already been doing some things to purposely tick off Dana as well.
Hence the reason Dana is creating the hype. I know that Nelson purposely does things to annoy Dana, but its not like its his fault if the shows ratings are down. And even if it is, its Dana’s fault fort putting him there. I’m just tired of Dana’s complaining act. If anything the show may be weak because the first two fights weren’t “flashy” and the fighters they keep highlighting in the house are pretty douchey.
I’m just playing devils advocate here. But it does blow my mind ratings are going down like this
Maybe it has just gotten to the point where no one cares to watch the show in any format any more?
I’ll bet we see the next season move to a week night.
And if they ever did go back to weekdays I would bet the ratings would increase.
Considering FX is literally breaking records during the week, that may be a tough get.
Dude you may not be wrong…the show is maybe getting a little overrun. It takes everything I’ve got not to fast forward every episode to the actual fight. Personally I’d like to see them change the format completely to only Ufc fighters who are up and coming and maybe guys on the verge, and have tournaments to pick top contenders, or to pick who gets top contender fight. Or they just get a fat contract
