In an ongoing effort to “trim the fat”, the UFC has released another four fighters in addition to Charlie Brenneman. Featherweights Michihiro Omigawa, Eiji Mitsuoka, and Tommy Hayden, as well as bantamweight Walel Watson were also handed their walking papers yesterday.
Omigawa (13-12-1) went just 1-4 in his recent UFC run, despite his decision loss to Darren Elkins being universally panned by pundits. Mitsuoka was unable to have his hand raised in two bouts, stepping in on short notice to face Takanori Gomi at lightweight, then being finished by Nik Lentz upon his return to 145 pounds. Hayden’s (8-2) two career losses make up his UFC tenure as “Wildcard” was submitted by Fabricio Camoes at lightweight and Dennis Bermudez at featherweight. Watson (9-5) had his hand raised in his UFC debut, but almost immediately found himself on a three-fight skid with losses to Yves Jabouin, T.J. Dillashaw, and Mitch Gagnon.
