The latest iteration of the “The Ultimate Fighter” returned to action this past Wednesday in Australia. The show features UFC lightweights George Sotiropoulos and Ross Pearson coaching their respective country’s teams. This season will consist of lightweights and welterweights and will conclude at UFC on FX 6 on December 15.
This week UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos stopped by to meet both the UK and Australian teams. Both teams were clearly awestruck by the heavyweight champion’s visit.
The show took a more heartbreaking turn however as Michael Pastou was told he would have to be sent home after tearing his bicep the episode prior. Pastou was clearly devastated as he had hoped to stay and train with the team but his rehabilitation schedule would prevent him from doing so. This lead to an emotional departure for Team UK.
Team UK would soon net a replacement however as undefeated UCC veteran Brendan Loughnane joined the team in Australia.
In the fight of the week, it was the lightweights turn to fight as Team UK’s Colin Fletcher took on Ben Wall. After some trouble with an armbar, Fletcher cruised to a relatively easy decision victory by utilizing his long frame to keep Wall at a distance on their feet and threatened with submission attempts from the ground.
The win for Fletcher was a bit of redemption for the UK fighter as he drew criticism from all sides (including UFC President Dana White) for apparently not taking the contest seriously after his antics irked several people including Team Australia coach George Sotiroupolus. Sotiroupolus had some heated words after Fletcher decided to take some artistic license with the Coach’s picture at the training center.
The win for Team UK brought the contest back to level ground at 1-1.
