Strikeforce has cancelled ”Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Healy” after an injury to lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez led Showtime to drop the card from their programming. Without a different option for a TV partner, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker deemed it best to cancel the card. Strikeforce announced the news Sunday evening.
According to a Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker:
“When SHOWTIME informed us that it would not be airing the event, we made the difficult decision to cancel Saturday’s card in Sacramento,” STRIKEFORCE CEO Scott Coker said. “Without a television partner, we simply could not move forward with this event. We wish Gilbert a speedy recovery and will work diligently and quickly to reschedule the fighters affected by this news on upcoming cards.”
MMAFrenzy will have more information on what will happen with the other fighters on the card as soon as more information becomes available. Ticket refunds will be made available at the point of sale.

Wow, who would of guessed 2 Zuffa cards would get cancelled in the same month…
Well what do you know another card being cancelled. I hope Gilbert Heals up soon and it is nothing serious but something just doesn’t feel right topw cards being cancelled from the same company, kind of weird
Jeez, what was Healy too selfish to accept a fight on shirt notice with another power house like himself lol
Disappointed, was looking forward to the strikeforce event. But I understand they don’t have enough star power to replace Gilbert. Where the UFC has the star power, just a champ who won’t take a fight.
Let it go. He just fought 2 days ago.
If Dana can shake his hand like a man why should anyone else remain sore about it?
I’d say the way it has been with the cancels that things are slowing down in MMA . Hope its not like the WWE and be just a fad every 7 years .
I was thinking the exact same thing. My friend predicted to me a few years ago that the UFC might slowly lose it’s appeal in a few years meaning less PPV buys and not breaking records for fastest ticket sales like they used to. I’m in no position to say it will or not but hopefully not since I love this sport.
But definitely GSP coming back will help the situation. I really hope GSP or Condit don’t get seriously hurt during their training camp and be forced to pull out. That would really suck since we’ve had enough cancellations already.
Big Hurt what are you taking about! Its the Ufcs FAULT they don’t have star power in strike force! They own the company! When do you every hear that the Ufc had signed another up comer, champ from another org, etc. never. Is their fault like its they’re fault they didn’t have enough stars on 151. Sorry but your just hating on bones. Period.
I have never been a fan of bones so yea that is part of it. But with strikeforce they have a contract with show time so the UFC fighters have nothing to do with it. Strikeforce has only a couple of star people. (Melendez, marquardt, rockhold and maybe Larkin that is all the star power outside of Cormier and Barnett)
Rousey is arguably bigger than anyone you just named.
And maybe jacare
Im not sore about it just not a fan
I wasn’t naming the females. I was comparing star power from strikeforce and UFC since UFC don’t have the women’s division
But I would prolly agree wit that
Yeah but the Ufc can still demand that they add outside talent. They can apparently even bring in Ufc fighters if they really wanted to a la Frank Mir. Not only that but the challenger for Menendez was so poor that they couldn’t even leverage him and save the event with a replacement fight. Its so obvious zuffa has no plan in building sf and can’t wait for it to go away. Perhaps they can just blatantly make it a women only mma org, because Rousey is the only star they have who doesn’t have a future home in Ufc.
Btw this is prob the best thing that could happen to Melendez because Healy is highly underrated, and probably would’ve given him a butt whooping.
He might be underrated but if u watched his last fight that explains why.
