The latest iteration of the “The Ultimate Fighter” kicked off this week as “The Ultimate Fighter: Team Australia vs. Team UK” got underway in Australia. The show features UFC lightweights George Sotiropoulos and Ross Pearson coaching their respective country’s teams. This season will consist of lightweights and welterweights and will conclude at UFC on FX 6 on December 15.
A recap of this week’s episode lies below, so if you want to see the show first, click here.
With the cast members already laid out, UFC President Dana White got right down to business as he told the fighters the same thing he told “TUF 16″ crew, each finish on the show will receive a $5,000 bonus and that a $25,000 bounty will be awarded to the fighters who are awarded the season’s best knockout, submission, and fight.
With no team selections to be made, the Team captains were given the option of picking fights or weight classes with the opening coin toss by White. Team Australia won the toss and opted to pick the first fight, with Team UK getting to select the weight class.
Unfortunately for one cast member, Michael Pastou, the injury bug reared its head as Pastou’s TUF dreams likely came to an end after a bicep injury.
Welterweights Ben Alloway (Team Australia) and Valentino Petrescu (Team UK) got the show’s fights underway. After an entertaining first round, Alloway dropped and finished Petrescu with a barrage of strikes. The win put Team Australia up 1-0 in the competition.

Not impressed with the attitude some of the UK fighters have shown. Pastou in particular seemed like hard work but wouldn’t wish that injury upon anyone in his position.
Alloway seemed like a really down to Earth guy, always nice to see people turn their life around doing well.
WTF is that on Colin Fletchers head?
He’s “The Freak Show”… I saw him fight at BAMMA, a tough dude, well rounded fighter, and I think he’ll win the show…
