One FC 6, which will see promotion’s first bantamweight champion crowned when Leandro Issa takes on Soo Chul Kim, but it would seem the inroads are already being paved for a the next challenger to the title as the Singapore-based company is implementing a bantamweight grand prix. While full brackets have yet to be announced, the first match-ups have been announced as Jens Pulver takes on Yanfei Zhao and Min Jung Song meets Masakatsu Ueda.
Pulver has only competed at bantamweight once in his illustrious career, defeating WEC veteran Coty Wheeler last August. The former UFC Light Champion is 2-2 in his last four fights, which have been competed across the flyweight through featherweight divisions. “Lil’ Evil” was most recently TKO’d in a come-from-behind loss to Eric Kelly at ONE FC 5, the bout was contested at featherweight. Pulver will now welcome the chinese prospect Yanfei Zhao to the ONE FC cage.
Masakatsu Ueda, a former Shooto 132 lb. champion, has long been established as one of the top talents in the division. The Japanese legend most recently suffered his second career loss, snapping a five-fight win-streak, in the form of a unanimous decision defeat at the hands of Travis Marx in his Bellator debut, subsequently seeing his release from the promotion. The onus of welcoming Ueda to ONE FC has been put on heavy-handed Korean slugger Min Jung Song, who is looking to rebound from a unanimous decision loss to Andrew Leone at Road FC 8.
