[UPDATE - 19:43] Aldo has announced via twitter that he is injured, the earlier report by UOL Esporte was made before Aldo had been told his injury had been made public. [UPDATE]
[UPDATE - 18:36]Brazilian site UOL Esporte has quoted the champion as saying that “I do not know anything about that. I’m fine, I just train, ” when asked if his recent motorcycle crash had affected his training Aldo stated, “No, I’m training normal. For me there was nothing spoken. Even on one leg I would fight.” [UPDATE]
Literally one hour after Quinton Jackson dropped out of the UFC 153 co-main event against Glover Teixeira, Dana White again took to twitter to announce that UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo is also out of the event with a foot injury suffered from his recent motorcycle accident.
To say that UFC 153 has taken some heavy losses today would be an understatement as the card now approaches UFC 149 territory.
Aldo was originally slated to face Erik Koch on the night, who pulled out of the bout due to injury. Former UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar then stepped up to face the Brazilian on his home turf. It is now the champion, who has not competed since January, who has been forced off of the bill.
As it stands, UFC 153 now has open slots in both the evening’s headlining bouts, with the the two biggest draws on the card forced onto the shelf.

And Boom goes the dynamite!
Wow.. At least Dana doesn’t have any more hair to lose.
Put KZ against Edgar and Thiago Silva against Rampage
KZ is out until next year
Another option (although I know UT won’t happen for various reasons) would be cool if Randy Couture came out of retirement to face Rampage….Rampage was pissed at Randy a while back & talked smack about him publicly because Randy usually picks his opponents as favorites to win against Rampage
Rampage is also hurt and is out of his fight with Glover. This was posted earlier today.
The most logical thing would be to try and get Anderson Silva in there. I think he would be willing to do it since it is in Brazil. Maybe have him fight at 205 against Rashad or Glover if they aren’t teammates.
Silva is shooting a movie
Put Kenny Florian in against Edgar. He comes out of retirement and gets a 4th title shot (Interm).
@The1
Ur right, I read it but for some reason was thinking it was Glover that was out
What about Edgar versus Ricardo Lamas?
that was originally planned for the end of the year, but it’s definitely possible now
Couldn’t've happened to a better org. What’s up with Aldo flat lying about the injury??? So bizarre.
Well if they are just going to pull names out of hats my vote would be for Sonnen/spider 3. Spider could def save that card, but doubt Dana would want him fighting Glover. Edgar/Florian just seems like a waste. Mendes would make sense if he would agree to it. How bout bonnar/Glover! He said he wants a big fight!
Sonnen/Spider 3? NO
this is getting old…..
how can this STOP happening?
Almost need to have contigent fighters/backups for every fight.
I agree, especially if there is a title fight. For whatever weight class, like when there was GSP vs Diaz and Condit vs Penn. Anything happens to the main event, there’s 2 fighters getting ready to fight that same night, with the same time to prepare. Also, there should be fighters in stand by, who are training, and at anytime can get a call to fill in. For example, Stephen Bonnar, you’re on standby to fill in for the Rampage/Glover fight, if one gets hurt, youre getting the call. If you don’t fight, you’ll have a match at UFC xxx, 1 or 2 months later. Then he has a back up for whenever fight he has next. Hire me Dana.
I think as fans we dont really fully understand everything that goes on behind the scenes it sounds really nice to just have backup fighters on stand by but I think logistically thats prob. impossible.
And just make sure that jon jones isnt the backup.
@ Kobe absolutely right. The trainers, nutritionists, coaches and managers would not get paid. Or will UFC take out the premium from each fighters check, like FICA, to cover the cost to prepare for a fight? Probably not. Too many suggestions that are not feasible.
Edgar vs mendes or Korean zombie. Probably not serious enough injury to warrant an iterm belt. Bonnar vs Glover would be a great fight. Lyoto vs Rashad rematch would be great as well.
Mendes is having legal issues right now, not sure if he’d get cleared to leave the country and Zombie is out til next year. Dana has a month to do something, so we’ll see.
Ahh i like this Stefan Bonnar idea where has he been at?
The insurance plan strikes again.
Clay guida should drop to 145 and fight edgar. Otherwise 45 is as shallow a weight class as 205.
