After a hotly contested bout with Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez this past May, Josh Thomson once again finds himself sharing card space with his career rival, although he will be facing off with a tough prospect in Caros Fodor this time out.
Thomson (19-5), a former Strikeforce lightweight champion, is on a 3-1 run in the promotion since 2009, with his sole loss coming at the hands of Gilbert Melendez. In that time, “The Punk” earned victories over the man who will be facing Melendez on the card, Pat Healy, “JZ” Cavalcante, and former Elite XC lightweight champion K.J. Noons.
Fodor (7-2) is coming off his first promotional loss to the aforementioned Healy. Prior to that bout, “The Future” was on a five-fight run in the Strikeforce cage, capped off by earning an upset knockout to the highly touted Justin Wilcox in 13 seconds.
Strikeforce: “Melendez vs. Healy” takes place September 29 at Power Balance Arena in Sacramento, California and is headlined by the eponymous lightweight championship match between Gilbert Melendez and Pat Healy.
