A pair of bouts have been made official for October’s UFC 153. First off, a heavyweight bout between former UFC heavyweight number one contender Gabriel Gonzaga and Geronimo “Mondragon” Dos Santos. The second bout will be a lightweight tilt between Gleison Tibau and TUF: Brazil’s Francisco Trinaldo. UFC officials added the bouts to the official lineup yesterday.
Gabriel Gonzaga (13-6 MMA, 8-5 UFC) is in his second stint with the UFC after a 7-5 run that included a title shot at UFC 74 and one of the best knockouts in MMA history over Mirko “Cro Cop” Filopovic at UFC 70. Gonzaga returned at UFC 142, where he defeated Ednaldo Oliveira via rear-naked choke. Geronimo “Mondragon” Dos Santos (34-14) is a longtime MMA veteran and knockout artist, winning 23 of his 34 fights by knockout. “Mondragon” has won his last 12 fights. This will be his first UFC appearance.
Gleison Tibau (25-8 MMA, 10-6 UFC) is a longtime UFC veteran. Tibau is coming off a tough loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 148. Tibau will look to regain the momentum he had before the bout, where he had a three-fight winning streak. He will take on TUF:Brazil cast member Francisco Trinaldo. Trinaldo is dropping two weight classes from his middleweight appearance on the show. Trinaldo made a succesful UFC debut at UFC 147, where he defeated Delson Heleno by TKO.
UFC 153 takes place October 13 at the HSBC Arena. The bout will be headlined by a featherweight title fight between the champion Jose Aldo and Erik Koch. The fight card will also feature a middleweight match up between Alan Belcher and Vitor Belfort, as well as the TUF Brazil champions in their first respective fights since winning at UFC 147.
