UFC President Dana White was obviously excited about light heavyweight champion Jon Jones’ new deal with Nike but may have been too excited when he spoke of the deal following UFC 150. White mistakenly stated that the deal would mean the end of boxing super star Manny Pacquiao’s clothing line, something the Beaverton-based company sought to clarify in a statement to MMAWeekly.
The deal will have no effect on Manny Pacquiao’s current contract with the company. In fact, Nike will be expanding the boxer’s line rather than cutting the line due to its high demand.
The deal for Jones is a still huge deal for the champ, as the clothing line will be unlike the deals the company has had with Yoshihiro Akiyama and Caol Uno in that it will be much larger in scope. The deal will be similar to middleweight champion Anderson Silva’s sponsorship deal with the company. Jones will begin wearing the sponsor immediately, including his upcoming bout with Dan Henderson.
The UFC light heavyweight champ’s deal will include a clothing line and a signature shoe in addition to fight sponsorships.
