Quinton “Rampage” Jackson Arrested
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has been arrested following an incident today in California and charged with felony hit and run, evading arrest, and other charges, MMAFrenzy.com has confirmed.
TMZ.com is reporting that Jackson “was in a car crash near Newport Beach (that’s near Laguna Beach in the O.C.) and then split the scene. Cops gave chase and eventually caught up and charged him with felony hit and run and felony evading arrest.”
MMAFrenzy.com’s Eric Shapiro spoke with Joseph Serna of the Daily Pilot, a newspaper that serves Newport Beach and Costa Mesa, who confirmed to MMAFrenzy.com that, as far as he knows, Jackson’s arrest was not staged (some thought he might have been “punk’d”) but that there were not any official witness reports at this time.
Serna further detailed the incident at DailyPilot.com:
Jackson, the driver of a lifted, gray pick-up truck left crashed cars, shredded tires and sparks in his wake this afternoon when he led police on a short pursuit from the southbound 55 freeway exit onto Newport Boulevard where he hit at least three cars, police said.
The driver hit two cars at 19th Street and Newport Boulevard, then drove away at about 1:13 p.m., Lt. Paul Dondero said. A Costa Mesa police officer saw the driver southbound approaching 17th Street and tried to pull him over, police said. There, he hit at least one more car before continuing to run, now heading south toward the Balboa Peninsula, Dondero said. Some time after that, the truck blew a tire but continued to drive on its rims, Dondero said.
Jackson eventually gave up, pulled over and was arrested, police said. The whole chase lasted about five minutes, Dondero said.
Jackson is currently being held at the Orange County jail on $25,000 bail.
BloodyElbow.com is reporting that there are no indications that Jackson was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
According to Yahoo Sports UFC President Dana White flew to Orange County to post Jackson’s bail.
Jackson’s arrest has also hit the front page of ESPN.com under the headline “On a ‘Rampage’: Former MMA champion arrested”.

This is legit I saw the pictures of Rampage face down on the road w/ cops pointing their guns at him in Newport, He hit 3 cars while being chased in this huge lifted truck w/ his own picture on the side of it for about 5 minutes…he blew a tire and kept going like a f’ing madman…I’m totally shocked, I live in Anaheim and Newport is like 10 mins away from where I live. I don’t know what the hell he was thinking.

Apparently “Rampage” thought he could lay low from the cops by hiding in a jacked-up pickup with a massive picture of himself on the door. Brilliant subterfuge from a man renowned for his intellect.

there must be some heavy personal stuff going on with him, i doubt its just the loss but it probaly added to the mix. i hope things are all right when the smoke clears. he a great dude outside the ring first and formost.
I witnessed part of the police chase on Newport Blvd and 32nd after the tire had blown and he was driving on his rim. This is the busiest time of the year in Newport Beach and there is no way it was staged. Unfortunately, Rampage picked the wrong street to get involved in a high speed chase - Newport Blvd. ends at the Pacific Ocean!

i live in lbc and i’ve met and hung out with rampage on a few occassions. this is wayyyyy outa character in my opinion. i sincerely hope there’s a decent explanation for the whole thing and that this doesn’t kill his career. best of luck.

Wow, Rampage always seems like a guy who gets the big picture. I wish him the best and hope their is a reasonable explanation. He isn’t my favorite fighter, but he is a great fighter. I hope no one was hurt.

i know it’s a theory at best, but i’m inclined to think there may have been some emergency that rampage was trying to get to and that could explain the crazy driving and bein on the cell phone. he’s not the type to do stupid stuff like this, someone even said that he had been respectful during the arrest process. everyone on here callin him an idiot should wait and see what the real story is before labeling the guy cuz if you’re pointin a finger at him sayin he’s an idiot, guess what, you got three fingers pointing right back at you.

I laughed so hard when I saw the truck after reading the artical… it says he was in a “Gray Truck ” not a jacked up Gray Truck with his face on the side.. Rampage was never really good at hide and seek ,but I have to say that had to be the worst place to hide ever LOL. As a UFC Fighter I like Rampage but when it comes to common sense he lost my respect.

My co-workers and I were driving back from lunch going over the PCH on Newport Blvd., and almost got hit by this big ass truck being chased. His front tire landed in front of our car as we merged over to let the cops do there thing. It was sur-real!

Man, I can’t believe Rampage would make such a bone head mistake like this. How did he think he was going to get away…he was in that HUGE gray truck with his picture right on the side just as plain as day. There was no way for him to get away. Man, why would you do something like that.
I’m a huge fan of Rampage and I saw sportsnet and watched what happened. I couldn’t believe it. He always seems like a laid back kind of guy. He will be back soon winning more fights. Still my favourite MMA fighter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
