UFC 89 PosterRameau Sokoudjou vs. Luiz Cane, Akihiro Gono vs. Dan Hardy, and Shane Carwin vs. Neil Wain have been added to the official fight card for UFC 89 “Bisping vs. Leben”.

UFC 89 takes place on October 19th at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England and will likely air on Spike TV. Just 2,500 tickets remain for the event. Middleweight contenders Michael Bisping and Chris Leben will clash in the evening’s main event.

Sokoudjou (5-2) rebounded from his UFC debut loss to Lyoto Machida with a first-round TKO victory over Kazuhiro Nakamura at UFC 84 in May. Cane (8-1) also stumbled in his UFC debut, losing via disqualification to James Irvin at UFC 79 in December. He too was able to reboud, defeating Jason Lambert via first-round TKO at UFC 85 in June.

Gono (28-12-7) was last in action in November, defeating Tamden McCrory via second-round submission in his UFC debut at UFC 78. Hardy (19-6) is a UK UFC newcomer who has won three-straight bouts and eight of his last nine.

Carwin (9-0) is a heavyweight prospect who knocked out Christian Wellisch in under one minute in his UFC debut at UFC 84 in May. Wain (4-0) is another English UFC newcomer who has won all four of his professional bouts via knockout.

Let’s go Carwin! he almost killed Wellisch w/ that KO last time it was brutal…Soko vs Cane has potential.

  • Dietrich says:

Rydawg called it right Soko vs Cane will be good!

  • 2girls2cups says:

seems like a weak card. i wanna see bisping leben but for a main event? that fight barely qualifies as the co-main or even the fight before the main event. should be like 3rd on the card. they should throw a good lw fight in the mix, we all know there’s plenty of talent to pull from.

  • Dietrich says:

Definitely the majority are stars in the making….

  • Rydawg says:

    2girls2cups,

Yeah I see your point but you can’t argue w/ the fact that it’s free! which is a smart move on the UFC’s part ’cause this card wouldn’t generate alot of PPV buys…like the last card in England.

  • Fiveson says:

Thank god this is a free fight. Talk about an underwhelming card. I like Bisping. I like Leben. But the two of them as the main event? Thanks for phoning this one in Joe Silva.

  • Ryan-S says:

christ, ANOTHER name or so that was on the card in June, we need another BIG name fight for the card to be very exciting. Look at UFC 88, holy crap, that has like 3 world champs ( or former now, lol) on the card, bloody excellent, and, silva/okami rumoured for it aswell. That takes the piss for an english fan, cos I want to see chuck, the Anderson silvas, hendo, franklin, and so on and so on. mmmmmmmmmmmm, dana ought to make them stratch overseas a bit more.
Still, we’ve got the good old characters that have starred at almost every uk event. This is just not how I see the ufc getting bigger fanbase as they cannot seem to get a DAMN good fight to headline.

Rampage did it once as a title fight, whoopee. What else?
    I like Bisping/Leben, but as a main card? I agree with 2girls2cups

spice it up. I m just worried as to who will have to pullk out not, and what person will replace.
    we’ll see

any other brits feeling like me at the moment ?

I am aware of the ppv etc, but christ, we are getting somewhat penalised a little because of the time difference.

  • The Gunslinger says:

i cant wait to see how hardy does in the ufc..but i would like gono to win he is so hilarious plus he is a very good fighter……..this fight card is gonna be a pretty good one ….plus its free you cant beat that….Id watch martha stewart vs kelly ripa in an mma fight if it was on spike…the ufc would do a good job at marketing that fight..LOL!

  • rutdog says:

Is the Diego Sanchez and Thiago Alves WW fight happening? I thought that was rumored on this card, also.

  • Rydawg says:

    rutdog,

I’m pretty sure Sanchez/ Alves is still gonna be on the card which should help ’cause it could be pretty explosive….hopefully.

  • Cole Miller says:

The leben/bisping and alves/sanchez fights are more than enough to get me to watch it…its free..they could throw a bunch of nobodies in there and I would still watch it…would you guys say those two fights are for title contention? winners take on Silva and St. Pierre…

  • Rydawg says:

I just heard that Thiago Silva and Wand are gonna fight in October I assume on this card….keep your fingers crossed!

  • Dietrich says:

I love free cards and it looks like there are a couple of title eliminators here.

  • rutdog says:

I would say definitely the Alves/Sanchez fight is for a title shot. The Leben/Bisping probably is too, unless they want to keep A. Silva bouncing around divisions. He might fight at 205 again after Okami, and before another title defense. This could give time for a Cote/Leben rematch or Cote/Bisping fight. Either way, that would have to be for the title in such a thin division. I think I remember Dana saying that Cote has now earned his title shot after his last fight, so who knows? Not like he hasn’t lied many a time before, “Bisping/Hammill rematch will be the next fight for both of them”

  • Ryan-S says:

yeah yeah, we know you are all getting it for free in the states, wish we were. Bravo has ended their contract, as Zuffa has signed with setanta, bummer as we now gotta pay for it. But, back to the point in question, I was saying how the card is EXTREMELY like the last UK event, the local faces. I sure hope Wand / Thiago comes off, that would make the whole night a spectacular event for me. I love Wand, he’s ace.

  • 2girls2cups says:

only thing better than seein bisping get ko’d for free is knowing that all you brits gotta pay for it, hahahahah, just messin with you guys. it does suck for you to always get the same fighters and weak cards while having to pay for it. i would think that if they’re trying to expand that market, they’d put the more stacked events there since the fan base in the US is more established and prolly not going anywhere. just seems wierd that a few months ago they had a fight night on spike for free with like 6 kickass fights and this is supposed to be a ppv event?

  • JOHNBOY says:

it will be worth it to see the count knock leban on his ass, u americans r as tight as a ducks ass either buy it or dont but please stop moaning about it, god u sound like a bunch of woman

  • Rydawg says:

Hey Johnboy that’s the thing we DON’T have to buy it because it’s free for us “Tight ass Americans” but I’d rather have a tight ass than a loose one, but that’s just my opinion.

  • Braveheart says:

Can’t wait to see my boys Bisping & Hardy

  • KOuch says:

To those frustrated with the England fight cards,

Remember the UFC has just “begun” to make it’s mark in England. It’s work in progress. I understand people want title fights and star filled fight cards but truth be told, it makes little sense right now. The time difference and young age of MMA(specifically the UFC)in England leaves a lot to be learned and adjusted as events continue. The UFC seems to be using a few key fighters as a tool to build fan favorites in England. Regardless of a title fight or opponent, having Bisping on the card is golden…perfect….a great selling point to England. He’s a star. The fans in the USA need to chill out. I’ll refer back to the last event in England. More than half of you thrashed the event saying it would suck monkey balls. I defended the event from the start and am happy to say, those who missed it, missed out on some GREAT fights. I find it totally unfair to look at a fight card on paper and dislike it for not having a title fight. I’m sure some of you have perfectly good reasons to be frustrated with the England fight cards….Me personally, I’ve been more than satisfied.

  • Ryan-S says:

hiya mate, well, I ain’t too frustrated, but i can’t help but just want a variation in faces. I am sure the fights will be good, hopefully excellent. But, a change of guys would be a great thing to look forward to.
Anyhow, hopefully Marcus Davis can get a chance to let his hands go this time, and Dan Hardy should be a tough sod aswell !
I just still got a little chip on my shoulder cos I was devastated when chuck pulled out last time, and I just felt this time a name of such equivilent would have been ace.
Looking forward to Bisping/Leben, should be interesting as they both have a damn good chance of finishing eachother and not letting the judges decide it.
Also, you know what, after seeing the UFC 85 event, I wa satisfied with the fights. I just fancy a change of faces, that’s all, nothing more. I would have thought Dana would have wanted some different guys. ut I guess those who are there will bring it.
Maybe Wand/Thiago aswell, that would be incredible. PLease Lords of the UFC fight card deciders, let it happen, lol.

  • joel b says:

sweet should be a good show for the brits i know that cane is a great fighter who just needs a little work and he will be a force to be reckoned with. the way he dropped lambert was awesome he made him look like a rookie

  • Rydawg says:

Kind of Off topic but I just found out Rampage got arrested for hit and run today!!! Not good.

  • Rydawg says:

http://www.dailypilot.com look it up…wtf was he thinking?

  • Dietrich says:

Have a feeling all other post threads just died with the Rampage story…

  • FixXeR says:

YeaH…Im glad this is a free card….pretty boring.

  • jpm says:

I think this card is beginning to take shape, if all the rumours prove to be correct we’ll be watching, Bisping, Leben, Sanchez, Alves, Hardy, Sokodjou…… and if Rydawg is correct with the Thiago/Wand matchup the cards pretty strong, the main event fights at least. Just a pity we’ve got to drive to that inbred sh*thole of a city Birmingham to watch it though.

  • JAI says:

Sokodju should win by KO. Carwin will look impressive once again. This kid is a rising star!
