Former Strikeforce Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz, one of the more polarizing figures in the sport today, has commented on his future in MMA. Nick will indeed continue to compete in MMA, he and his team will be meeting with Dana White on August 6 to determine his next move.
Diaz infamously “retired” from the sport after a controversial decision loss to Carlos Condit at UFC 143 in February. The retirement lasted until “The Kid From Stockton” was granted an immediate rematch with the newly crowned interim UFC Welterweight Champion. It was all for naught, however, as Diaz would eventually have the fight ripped away from him behind a failed post-fight drug test, testing positive for marijuana metabolites.
The Cesar Gracie product would try to appeal to the Nevada State Athletic Commission in May, but it proved to be futile as his retroactive one-years suspension stood. Gracie stated that they have taken the matter to court, and if things go their way, Nick should be back in the cage by the end of the year.
Diaz also ostensibly has his sights on a new opponent, strangely enough, in UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva. The big announcement is that he plans on asking for a fight with The Spider.
Nick has stated that he would like to take fights “that matter”. Since GSP will be fighting Condit, he has to look elsewhere. He will respectfully ask for a fight with Anderson Silva, a fighter he respects and would like to challenge.
Silva’s camp has been speaking of a fight with GSP, possibly even at a catch weight. Nick will take that fight in a minute but has told me that should Silva decide not to drop at all, he will move up to 185lbs to face the Champ.

OH SHIT!
what the hell! he gets busted for drugs and as soon as he returns he asking for anderson silva! he isn’t even in silvas division, even if he would be willing to fight at 185 there is a long line of contenders just as deserving if not more so than diaz. He should stick to welterweight that’s where he belongs.
I love you Nick Diaz.
How awesome would that fight be, i would love to see it
i don’t think it would be good, nick can’t adapt and silva is more elusive than condit.. silva in the first round..
Let’s see it. Spider will have lost by the time he’s back anyway.
Spider will have lost? To who? You Anderson haters are ridiculous… you say that “this guy will beat Silva”, then Silva clowns them with ease… then you move on to the next contender & say the same shit… you want Silva to lose soooo damn bad – it’s pathetic. Sorry, but Anderson isn’t losing to any of the current MW’s – it’s a fact.
I’m not a hater. But no it isn’t a fact.
Spider probably won’t even have a fight by February. Which is when diazs suspension is up. But Diaz needs to stay at welter
So he feels that coming off both a loss and a suspension grants him a title shot?
This isn’t Strikeforce match making homie.
^what he said
@Jason
But, but, he’s Nick Diaz! :D
Why the f*** not. Who else would step up?unfortunatly the past few cards have been lackluster and I think this would get people excited. I know its not practical and wideman deserves a shot but anderson wants big$ fights so its kind of logical( although illogical from a contender standpoint) Ratings Dana ratings.
I too would love to see this fight but, I have to agree with cody that other middleweights deserve it more at this point than Diaz. I think he should have to prove that he can compete at a high level in that division by beating at least a top 6 guy.
I really don’t see this fight happening, but, sh!t would I love to see it!!!
I think Dana is going to want him to stay at welterweight. (for now)
This fight would break ppv buy records for sure. This would be a tough fight for Diaz but one I would like to see. If he really wants to fight at MW then I can see him fighting the winner of Stann bisping.
What I find really interesting is that Anderson’s people have been asking about a fight with GSP. I also read that Anderson would be willing to do a catch weight fight–previously he said he wouldn’t move up or down. GSP may be more willing to take this fight if it’s at 177.5.
Throw him in against a contender first, how about Bisping? Plenty of trash talk then a pasting for Diaz and then that’s the end of this potential scrap.
what about… nick diaz vs chael sonnen… can you imagine the sh!t that would come out of their mouths?
Too bad that would never happen since they occasionally train with each other
id rather see evans fight silva … style wise he has away better chance at beating silva then zombie diaz
I agree, I would be stoked if Evans moved to mw and challenged Silva.
I agree also, Evans has had a great career so far at LHW but people have always said that he could easily fight at MW that would be an interesting matchup.
Actually Spider will have fought or will have a fight set for at that time, and there is no reason he should stay at we. A loss doesn’t hurt him, and he is dynamic enough to actually have a chance. Makes for an interesting mega fight, you cannot deny that. And UFC sure wont.
What Cesar said..
To paraphrase the late great Rick James, weed is a hell of a drug…!
now that’s a fight i want to see!
Actually Rick James said cocaine was a hell of a drug!
Actually, I did qualify with “paraphrase”…..
non title fight will make it so he can cut in line. it is a superfight so you can rationalize it. i love the matchup. nick will bring it. anderson will win, but will not leave unscathed. it will deliver. every one of nicks fights deliver (when his opponent isnt trying to win by running away while.throwing piddly leg kicks
