Former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Rafael Cavalcante will prepare for an entirely different battle as he gets ready for his California State Athletic Commission hearing on August 8. “Feijao” will be appealing his one-year license suspension.
Cavalcante (12-3) tested positive for stanozolol, a steroid, after his May 19 bout with Mike Kyle at Strikeforce: Barnett vs Cormier at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California, which saw the Brazilian blow the AKA product’s doors off early and submit him with a guillotine choke in a mere 33 seconds.
After the failed drug test, the Black House fighter saw his win overturned and was handed a $2,500 fine.
“Feijao” will offer a drug expert who witnessed the testing of the fighter’s “B” sample to the commission as testimony, as well as having a lawyer present. The second test was administered on June 26 by CSAC, which employs the World Anti-Doping Agency. If the hearing doesn’t go his way, the former champion will face a retroactive year-long suspension, sidelining him until May 18,2013.
